Sixth Ave.Inn, Seattle

I need a hotel in May that's not too far from the convention center and was looking at the sixth ave. inn. Any comments on this place? Is it walking distance to Pike Place, etc.?

Bill:
I've stayed at the 6th Avenue several times. It's nothing spectacular, but the rooms are decent (and clean), and there's free parking. I have walked to the Pike Place Market from the Sixth Avenue--it's about 6 to 8 blocks, depending how far into the Market you are willing to wander.
You can also walk to the Convention Center from here, and to the Belltown restaurants. You can easily amble to Westlake Mall, and to the Fifth and Fourth Avenue shops.

DON'T DO IT. I cannot stress that enough. I was in Seattle for a convention last summer and was placed at the Sixth Ave. Inn. I had a horrible, dank, damp, dirty room with a lovely view of the nudie bar across the street. I immediately checked out and went to Westin around the corner. If you can spare the extra money for the comfort and peace of mind, stay at one of the larger hotels. Sixth Ave. Inn doesn't cut it, by any stretch of the imagination, for any traveler I know.

Wow! You either got a really bad room (which is possible anywhere), or the place has deteriorated overnight. I guess I'll better go and check it out again.
Thanks!

Try Wall Street Inn, they are really close to the market and reasonably priced. My parents stayed there in December and I visited them a few times, the place is awesome, The rooms are huge and more like your home than a hotel room. Great Breakfast too.

I stayed at the Mayflower Park a few years ago while attending a convention, and loved it! It's a small boutique hotel (100 rooms or so, I think) with good service and very nice rooms. It was just a few blocks from the convention center and is attached to a large indoor mall, which was a good diversion during particularly rainy periods.

The Mayflower is a good suggestion, several blocks from Convention Center though. The Paramount is one block from the Convention Center and a very nice newer hotel.

Actually, I think there is a nudie bar across from the Sixth Avenue Hotel (I believe it's a theater however). It's been there for many years, so it's not instant deteriorization.

I've stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel several times. It's 2 blocks from the convention center and has a good restaurant (Von's) plus more across the street.
