Sitka, Juneau and whales?

We're cruising to Alaska July '08, end of July. Considering in Sitka, whales and puffins small boat cruise. So, queston is--would small boat cruise in Juneau(like Harv and Marv) be redundant? I hear alot about Juneau, not so much about Sitka.I like the idea of possibly seeing otters which doesn't seem to be offered in Juneau but ,of course, whales and orcas are the stars of the show. Thanks.

I'd like to make a recommendation. We were in Sitka for a few days recently and had really enjoyed ourselves by hiking and checking out the gorgeous town and what have you. We all agreed that it was one of our favorite places we've been. Well, right before we left, we stumbled on the idea of a smaller more private type boat tour. We got turned on to this very nice and extremely knowledgable young captain/geologist named Paul Davis (www.gallantadventures.com). We went out on a 2hr tour (we stayed out longer b/c we were having so much fun) and saw a whole other world that was right there, but unbeknownst to me the whole time we were in town. First of all, the coves and "keyholes" and frosty reefs and sea stars and salmon jumping up waterfalls right from the ocean and avalanche chutes and comparing greywacke bluffs to basaltic lava flows would be worth the hundred something bucks we spent (all those technical terms I mentioned are things I learned on this tour, by the way! Ha!). But we saw a brown bear like don't need binoculars close, 2 grey whales, a humpback with an awesome fluke, rinocerous auklets, a raft of sea otters and they were amazing, seals and it was just one new thing after another. And don't let me forget the captain, Paul, or Pauly as his buddies on the VHF call him, was so sweet and fun and really made sure we were all enjoying ourselves and opening our eyes to this amazing world of rainforest islands and wild animals that was just out of reach before. Knowing what I know now, if I had gone home without doing this tour I'd be sooo bummed. We just wanted to pass this along because we had such a good time and were treated really nicely.
