sites that compare airfares
 

i've never paid much attention to those websites that will compare all the various travel search engines and let you know how they stack up for a particular fare, but a friend wants to know.

could you recommend some of those comparison sites? thank you!

It isn't really a "comparison" site but rather an aggregator site:

www.itasoftware.com

Try www.cheaptickets.com

one-stop shopping does not really exist. Although I love itasoftware, even that site has given me higher fares than I can sometimes get at other sites. I browse that plus Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity and then check individual airline sites - no way that works best every time. Also, some airline, like Southwest, do not list on some of these mega-sites, so then you need to add those airlines into the mix.
