Singles Travel
I am single in my 40s and would like to take a few days off over the summer/fall to go somewhere and relax. I don't mind staying somewhere where there are couples and families. But I would like it to NOT be a place where the couples/families are overwhelming in numbers and where there might be some number of other singles around.
Places I like are Cape Cod, Newport, California. Places I would also consider are NC, SC ... but certainly am open to suggestions. I also like golf and might consider using this to take some golf lessons (or maybe rekindling my interest in tennis). Can anyone make any suggestions? Larry E. |
How about a Club Med Vacation - I know they kind of have a reputation for young party crowd- but I have been to the one in Cancun and it appeared there were older singles around ( I was married at the time so didnt pay a lot of attention to the single scene)
Instruction in many sports is part of the package- may have one that specializes in tennis? |
Somewhere in the Caribbean maybe? I would suggest Hawaii or Mexico but am guessing you are located back east US? which would make for too long a plane ride for just a few days.

Fly into Jacksonville, FL (amelia island, ponte vedra, st augustine). A TON of great golf courses + World Golf Village w/ the hall of fame. Nice beaches, weather in the fall, and prob a good fare on SWA? I love JAX :) I miss it sometimes.

Oops I see in your other posting you only want destinations within the US.
|
Actually, I'll take destinations outside the US also ... for the future. I've had a lot of trouble finding singles tours/trips that cater to 30s-40s. I figure Carribean/Mexico (maybe Club Med Cancun) in the fall or winter. Any other resorts come to mind?

Windjammer Cruises also have singles trips - dont think there would be much
golf or tennis though. |
The Hyatt Dorado is a place in Puerto Rico that the guys I used to work with went to golf, gamble and hang out. I do believe it is more family oriented now though. Puerto Rico is still a fun place to go.
Kiawah Island SC is a big golf resort and has Charleston, the city right nearby. Hilton Head was a big golf and tennis resort when we went, but it is also geared toward families. There is also Myrtle Beach which I believe has golf and I have heard lots to do! GoTravel, if you are out there, you are the Carolina Connection and would be able to tell more about the resorts I mentioned. I think if you visit an area that is a resort but also near or in a big city area, there will be much more for you to do and singles as well. |
you might want to consider tucson or palm springs. sedona az, block island, bermuda, hilton head
|
Well I never go on tours or stay at resorts, but do travel solo quite often. I have had great trips to both Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and Honolulu, Hawaii on many many occasions.

The first two U.S. cities that came to mind were Kailua-Kona HI and Key West FL. But when I need or want to travel alone I usually try and go outside the U.S. Especially Europe, I've found people there to be wonderfully friendly, and they don't look at single travelers -- especially single male travelers -- with the same suspicion as one sometimes finds in the U.S. (That comment isn't intended to offend anyone, it's just been my experience the past 25 years.)
