simple seafood in Portland, OR?
Staying in Portland, OR downtown on SW Clay St. for 1 nt. Can anyone recommend a moderately priced seafood restaurant? We try to eat healthily so we don't do rich sauces or fried, just simple food - maybe grilled wild local salmon?
Thanks, isy |
Jake's Famous Crawfish has a pleasant, clubby dining room and straightforward seafood preparations.

For good seafood, we go to SouthPark Seafood. Another good place is Fenouil, but there usually aren't as many seafood options there as at Southpark. Both are very good, and you can check typical menus online and see what looks best to you.

Yum, we just had some grilled salmon last night at home that was caught out of the Columbia River this past Wed. I like Harborside in Portland, down by the waterfront. Lots of fresh fish choices here. Enjoy! ***kim*** ((*))

mms and I ate in the same places all the time, so I will be her echo.
SouthPark is great ! www.southparkseafood.com and Fenouil is just so very beautiful and nice. www.fenouilinthepearl.com Everywhere you go in Portland, they serve really good seafood so it won't be hard to find . The only bad seafood I had there was (sorry happy) Jakes and the horrible seafood place down on the Riverfront .. we walked out of that one .. ugh! Off the top of my head, great seafood can be had a bluehour , www.bluehouronline.com Everett Street Bistro www.everettstreetbistro.com, or Wildwood..www.wildwoodrestaurant.com you can take the streetcar from wherever you are staying to all of these. |
As Scarlett said, most good restaurants in Portland will have some seafood on the menu, usually salmon if it's in season. And the streetcar and MAX make it easy to get just about anywhere. But, if you want to walk from your hotel on Clay, I'd suggest Higgins. It's one of Portland's first farm-to-table-fresh restaurants, and a place where the chef knows better than to mess too much with a good piece of fish.
I also agree with SouthPark, particularly if you like Mediterranean-influenced cuisine. But Harborside? Part of the McCormick & Schmick's chain... |
Thank you, everyone. I have printed out your suggestions.
