Silverlake District in LA

Is the Silverlake district neighborhood in LA safe? Is it centrally located for sights? Thanks.

What I know of it is safe enough, but take a couple of wrong turns and you could end up wandering some not-so-desirable areas. I would not call it centrally located to sights that most tourists would be looking for including beaches, bev Hills, Santa Monica, Malibu, Museums etc. Will you have a car?

Consider CalMarHotel.com in Santa Monica, or BaysideHotel.com

SO far, of all the places you've mentioned in your posts, Comfort Inn SM is probably your best bet. Since you're going in summer, you want to be as close to the ocean as possible for the breezes. Sportsmen's Lodge could be hot-as-heck in the Valley. The girls will also enjoy the shopping and hustle-bustle of the Santa Monica area. SM can be pricey, but perhaps you can find a deal. If you can't and you must stay in the center, try for ParkPlazaLodgeHotel near the Grove and the Tar Pits. Better location than Silverlake for tourists.

It's best to post about a specific hotel. "Silverlake" covers a lot of territory from very nice to less so, depending on who is doing the advertising.

Did you ever check the Farmer's Daughter? I thought that was one of the better suggestions.

We have driven around the Silverlake neighborhood a few time in search of its "heart," but we haven't found it. If you do, please report.
