Silverado Resort/Napa

Would like opinions on this place. It looks really nice from the website. They have a new restaurant opening soon here, also. TIA ***kim***

We stayed there about 12 years ago, so take my recommendation with a grain of salt. We really liked it there. We had a nice condominium, well-kept grounds for walking, etc.

I am sure you would like it Kim. Beautiful club house, lovely golfcourse, wonderful grounds etc. It is a historical spot in Napa Valley. It is along the Silverado Trail. Do post a trip report after your visit.

Why are the rooms so cheap here? I checked all over Yountville and St. Helena for a room on a Fri. night and everywhere was a two-night minimum and over $300/night. I checked Travel Zoo and the Silverado Resort will give me a room for one Fri. night at $160/night.

Travel Zoo has great deals on places in Monterey/Carmel, also. Most of them offered are Sun.-Thurs., tho. ***kim***

My stay there was actually longer ago than Maureen's. I remember it as a traditional, country club sort of place, with maybe a little less snob appeal. Even today, I think I'd feel out of place there, as their target market seems to be those with even more gray hair than I.

the rooms are cheap because they are very dark, below average and "tired." my trip was at least 5 years ago but i still think of it as being cavelike and we had some sort of suite with a deck.

also, when we showed up the pool was drained and it was mid-summer. caveat emptor!

The Silverado golf resort surroundings are very nice but if you are looking for luxurious rooms you will not find it here. None of the rooms are the same but most are very dumpy. I have seen better rooms in motels. From my expereince the only people that stay at this resort are with companies. It is not a romantic place. Also if you are not a golfer you will feel very much out of place.

kim--I stayed there 3 weekends ago for a lawyers' conference so I guess I have the more up-to-date info. The grounds, the surroundings and location right near Silverado Trail are very good. I'm not a golf and tennis type so those facilities mean very little to me but lots of people seemed to be enjoying them. The spa across from the main entrance was quite lovely--massages, facials, etc. We stayed in a one bedroom condo that was very nice; not worn or shabby, it was on the ground floor and overlooked a fairway. They were still working on the new restaurant and I believe pro shop, but since there are so many places that I like to eat in Napa that was not an issue.

I did not stay at the Silverado .. but I did see it .. It has a pretty entrance .. beyond that .. we stayed at the Sonoma Mission Inn .. which was very .. very lovely .. ! ! Expensive .. but high end .. including the spa .. depends on what you want ... For sure upscale .. I honestly prefer B&B's where I get to know the locals .. but I would go back to the Sonoma ... for sure .. !

Thanks, SAB! I think it sounds great for our one night in Napa before attending a luncheon for a 95 yr. old dear friend! We hope to try Martini House and Cindy's this visit and hit Hess, Del Dotto, Opus One and Cakebread. ***kim***

BTW mhs, we stayed at the Sonoma Mission Inn last March. I love it there. We had a small room in the Historic section with lots of windows overlooking the mineral pool. It's my favorite place to stay in Sonoma! ***kim***

Hi,
We stayed there in March 2002. It was really a nice resort. The spa is very nice and there is a very nice pool there. We stayed in a suite with a living room, small kitchen and bedroom. It was nice to have the extra room and the kitchen. It wasn't super luxury, but I thought it was nice. I thought the location was very good also. You were pretty close to everything. I would stay again.
