silver spring

I am moving in a few days to Silver Spring. Not knowing much about Maryland or DC in general, this appeared to be a decent location. What are some opinions on this area?

Silver Spring is OK. Only lived their 30 days. I was more impressed with Bethesda, it's a nicer area.

The Metro goes right though both Bethesda and Silver Spring, so if you want you can find an apartment close to a Metro station for quick access to D.C. Bethesda is a little larger, I think, and is more upscale with many fine restaurants. However, the rents are higher.

Silver Spring is pretty big. It depends on whre you will be in Silver Spring. The downtown area is starting to go through a transformation. The rest is pretty suburban. Some areas are really nice, some can be rough.

I lived on the Silver Spring/Chevy Chase border for many years. It is very convenient to downtown DC, Bethesday, Rock Creek Park.

Hi, I am a long-time Silver Spring resident and would be glad to answer some questions. The first thing you should realize is that Silver Spring is a post office address, not an incorporated town and covers a huge area. What part of Silver Spring are you moving to? I live near the "downtown" area and Metro. Also, what are you looking for? (Yes, Bethesda is much nicer, but you pay for that, big time.)

Sounds like you've already decided on an apartment, so welcome to the neighborhood.

Kensington is also a great place. Close to Bethesda but not as pricy. Also the park runs through most of it. No apartments really. Bethesda would be your best bet for entertainment, food and fun.

Silver Spring and Wheaton are mostly hispanic and black. Great place to live if you are black or hispanic.

Please visit the Wheaton Mall to get the feel of the area.

I loved Tacoma Park. It seems like a good place to live. It was on the Metro too.
