Sightseeing Cruises in Seward

I was wondering which sightseeing cruises in Seward, Alaska are good? Also, has anyone taken the daycruises aboard the Major Marine boats? Thanks for your help.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Kenai Fjords company. Their boats are smallish and able to go wherever they hear of sightings.

We took the 8 hour tour with the lunch on Fox Island. Next time we will do the longest tour.

We were lucky and had good weather and calm seas but I would wait til the day before to see how the weather is. We had no problem getting tickets that way. Seats are not assigned so it didn't matter. They take out several boats throughout the day.

I agree with the Kenai Fjords recommendation. I've done the long and shorter tours with them 3 times and have always seen a great deal of sea life including large pods of killer whales near the boat and, on one trip, a bear foraging along the beach. Anytime of the year, dress warmly and in layers and do not forget gloves. It gets cold along the glaciers and if it's raining.

We went on the Major Marine day cruise of the Kenai Fjords a couple of years ago. They had a park ranger on board to provide narration/information. I would recommend this cruise. We saw a glacier calving, bear, puffins, seals, whales. Passengers had assigned tables in the cabin-- since we were there in May it was not crowded so we had a table to ourselves, but otherwise you may have to share with another party.

I have gone several times with Kenai Fjords and Major Marine, my preference is now the longest Northwestern trips 9+ hours- (the last 2). It is important to choose one that sails at least 6 hours- not the Fox Island stops, since to see significant wildlife you need to get out of the bay- and farther is better. Take seasickness precautions. I have seen sick passengers every trip. consider purchasing the toursaver coupon book, has some 2 for one coupons www.toursaver.com
