Any opinions on the Hibiscus Suites Inn in Siesta Key? We may be in the Siesta Key area for a couple of nights in May. While researching lodging options, I was surprised by the good reviews of the HS on trip advisor. The scary pink exterior and low room price are keeping me from booking - it seems too good to be true. I would appreciate any opinions, including other places to stay. Thanks.

Well you do realize this resort is "not" on Siesta Key--therefore the low price. Depends on when you are visiting in May--if Memorial w/e and you got a great rate there then go for it, however here is a website for you to research www.4Sarasota.com might give you some info--let me know if you need any other info

SiestaLinda, thanks for the website. I realize that the HS isn't on the beach. I think I read it is a short walk. True? I just want to make sure that it isn't in a questionable area.

I am also considering the Hilton in Longboat Key and the Lido Beach Resort. I'll be with my husband and kids. We will want beach time and some sightseeing, so we probably won't spend much time in our room. That is why I'm considering the HS, since I don't think we need a full blown resort.

I have read wonderful things about Siesta Key Beach so that is also skewing my decision toward staying in that area over my other choices.

Wtm003--Hibiscus Suites is at the base of the Stickney Pt Bridge on the mainland. If you walk to the beach you will have to walk over a very busy bridge and cross a very busy street to get to the beach and then the beach they are talking about is Crescent Beach it is nice but the beach you hear so much about is Siesta Key Public beach which you could drive to but not walk.

Lido Beach Resort is directly on the beach--not as nice as Siesta but still very nice. You are withing walking/biking distace of a nature/bird sactuary walk and of course St. Armands Circle with over 130 shops and restaurants in all price ranges.

You could always take a day and drive to Siesta Key Beach, in May and not Memorial week end will only take you like 20 min.

I love Siesta but we do not have alot of resort type hotels on the beach, most people rent condos.

SiestaLinda - Thank you so much for the information! Obviously, I am not at all familar with this area, so I really appreciate your input. The HS is probably not the right choice for us. It appears that Siesta Beach is probably better for a day trip. We are looking at a long weekend in early May. I'm sure it is best to avoid Memorial Day weekend! Thanks again.

If you're interested in a beachfront place I'd suggest Turtle Crawl Inn on Longboat Key. Longboat is the middle of three islands - Anna Maria, Longboat, and Siesta - all three have the greatest talcum powder sand beaches. The Hilton is a beautiful place on Longboat but the Turtle Crawl would probably give you a bit more room - they have one bedroom apartments with full kitchens too.

HI, I would suggest going to www.vrbo.com and renting a condo on Siesta Key, it's wonderful, and almost always cheaper than a hotel, we love vrbo and use it all the time.
