Shuttles From Grand Central to Giants game
 

My husband and son are going to New York for the Giants/Falcons game on Nov. 9. They are staying at the Roosevelt Hotel, which I believe is close by Grand Central Station. Does anyone know where I could get information to see if there are shuttles from Grand Central to the game? Thanks!

There is a shuttle from the Port Authority, not Grand Central. Buses leave several times, pre-game, and starting 20 minutes after the game ends. Very easy to get in and out, quickly.

Check the NY Port Authority website for information on schedule and gate.

FYI, there is a subway connecting the Port Autority and Grand Central, although it's not as convenient as it could be.

There is no shuttle service from Gr. Central station to the Meadowlands. As was pointed out in another reply there is bus service from the Port Authority bus terminal located at 42nd St. and 8th Avenue. There is no subway connecting Gr. Central and the PA. You can take the shuttl train from Gr. Central to the TImes Square stationn and then you have to walk through a long tunnel to get to the PA.

Rob is wrong, there IS a shuttle train that connects from Grand Central Staion to the Port Authority Terminal or they can take a more reliable train, which is the #7 Train. From Port Authority they can take the NJ Transit buses to the stadium.

Missjanna: Where do you get the shuttle train that runs from GR. Central station to the Port Authority. I have never seen it or heard of it until I read your note and it doesn't show on my subway map.

It's not like Port Authority and Grand Central are miles apart or anything like that. By the time you walk to GC, through the station and down the stairs to the #7 and then from the #7 to PA you could save time (and steps) by actually WALKING from one to the other. YOu could even stop along the way for a little breakfast.

PA consists of 2 buildings -- a "north" building and a "south" building. 41st Street runs between the buildings and is called "Area X". More than likely that's where your bus to the Stadium will leave from. You'll need to purchase tickets in the SOUTH building, at the NJ Transit ticket windows about 1/2 way back through the building on the left. At that time ask the ticket clerk where the bus leaves from just to make sure.

Rob, it's not a 'shuttle', per se. It's the #7 subway that runs from Flushing, Queens and stops at Grand Central, 5th Avenue and Times Square. At Times Square you take an underground maze-like walk one block into Port Authority.

LOL, al, it's so true that if you take the subway or shuttle you end up walking half the way anyway. It takes the same amount of time (20 to 25 minutes) whether you walk, take the subway or shuttle, or the bus (M42 goes cross town on 42nd). So if it's raining or cold I take the bus or shuttle, and if it's nice out I walk.

Just to clear things up -
There are three ways to get from Grand Central to Port Authority via public transportaion:

1. The bus - M42 runs cross town on 42nd
2. The shuttle - runs from Grand Central to Times Square. You can then walk underground from Times Square to Port Authority. I don't recommend this because it's a confusing walk for tourists.
3. The subway #7

Just checked the Roosevelt Hotel and it seems to be on 45th and Madison, which is WALKABLE to Port Authority. Plus they can probably stop and get something to eat on the way. But this would of course depend on the weather that day.

As for the Times Square / Port Authority connection, yes you have to go through a block long tunnel to get from one to the other, but I consider it a connected station since you do not have to leave the station to get between the two. When you can transfer from the Shuttle (which leaves you closer to Times Square) to the A train (which leaves you closer to Port Authority) without paying another fare while still being underground, then that is a transfer point in my book. Plus there is alsways something interesting going through that path, ever look up while walking it? Can't remember what direction, but look towards the ceiling next time and you will see these sayings and pictures as you walk along. Then you can't miss the guy that dances salsa with the doll attached to him inside the station.

That's the info on the bus you'll need to take to the Stadium. They don't give much actual schedule info since it always depends on the event.
