Shuttle Service from Newark
 

I just received notification that a shuttle bus, with other passengers will be $64 from Newark to Edison Hotel on 47 Street and other types of transportation are a lot higher, over $100. Would a cab ride be just as cheap?

Other types of transportation are much higher??? Ever heard of public transport? The express bus, which is what I used last time I was crazy enough to fly out of Newark, costs all of $16 one way. There are other options, see: http://www.panynj.gov/airports/ewr-p...portation.html

Olympia Trails is 16 per person to the Port Authority, about 6 blocks from your hotel. If you don't want to walk you can take a taxi for less than $10.

A car service which must be pre-reserved, is about $75 or $80 straight to the hotel. Do not take a regular taxi. Call a comoany like AriaL 7 and you will be picked up after baggage claim if you go that way.

I actually prefer the Airtrain to NJ Transit then a taxi to the hotel for the same price as the airport bus. $64 for a shuttle is a ripoff.

No a cab would be a lot more than $64 - since you would have to pay the $13 tunnel toll and a 20% tip plus a $70 plus fare.

You can get the Airporter (large bus to central location) to the city for I think about $20 - to either Grand Central, Port Authority - and then grab the subway or a cab to your hotel.

Depending on your hotel location and how much luggage you are willing to schlep you can take the Airtrain to NJ transit to subway or cab.

where does the Airtrain to NJ transit leave you once you are in NYC? We will be going in december.

You take the AirTrain to NJ Transit to NY Penn Station. We just did it a couple of weeks ago - it's really easy.

You must remember to asty on until NY Penn Station - not to be confused with Newark Penn Station,

Once at Penn Station you can take either the subway or a cab to your hotel - depending on the location and how much luggage you have to deal with.

But the large airporter bus is another viable option - goes to a couple of central points in the city (avoiding going from AirTrain to NJ Transit) and you can take the subway or a cab form there. Think it's about $20 per person - $64 per person is outrageous and Super Shuttle is notorious for driving people all over Manhattan for an hour or more, sitting in traffic, while dropping people at several far flung hotels. Anything is a better choice than Super Shuttle.

What nyt said about the shuttle. I once made the mistake of taking it in from JFK. Since I was staying furthest south I was last off. I decided to regard it as a free tour of Manhattan (including Times Square), but since then I've used public transport.

We always take NJ Transit and Air Train combo to and from EWR and Manhattan. Just did it last month.

If you are going to walk be sure that you can easily manage your luggage on a crowded sidewalk. I work near Grand Central and often see tourists, each trying to pull 2 wheelies (1 large and 1 carry-on) trying to walk abreast on the sidewalk - getting in everyone's way and stopping every few steps every time one of the 4 bags goes off it's rollers - or runs into an innocent pedestrian.

Also - do NOT start across the street until you have a newly turned light - or you won;t have time to get across and will end up with cars whizzing by on both sides or you.
