Shows for children
We are taking our 10 yr granddaughter to LV for a couple of nights on the way to Yellowstone. What do you recommend the best shows for a 10 yr. old. She said she wanted to see one of the Cirque shows - which one of these would be best for her. We will be there on a Mon and Tues. and looks like "O" is dark those nights. We are going to stay at The Orleans. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Carole

Whatever you do, don't take her to Zumanity. I saw Mystere and I believe that would be OK. She may also like the amusement park at Circus Circus.

Mystere is a very nice show and wonderful for children. Right now, that, or O, would be the only Cirque show suitable for a 10 yr. old in town. Some other shows would be Lord of the Dance, Lance Burton, Danny Gans, or the Blue Man Group.
There's also a dinner/show at the Excalibur called the Tourmant of Kings with jousting, sword fights, horse races, etc. It's fun, but it sounds like you have a sophiscated granddaughter. It might not be up her alley, since you eat dinner with your hands. Other entertainment would be the Secret Garden at the Mirage and the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. |
Thanks to all. I was thinking about Zumanity and wondered??? I also was considering Tournament of Kings but she said she wanted to see a Cirque show. I guess we will try the Mystere. Thanks for your help. Carole

Nope, not Danny Gans. At 10 years old she won't know 95% of the people he is impersonating. Lance Burton is great for kids though.

LAS VEGAS IS NOT FOR CHILDREN!! I really get angry at people who think it is. Do yourself and other people a favor and leave the kid at home or don't go. If I'm paying money to go to an ADULT place I do'nt want to see or hear any kids. Alot of people go to Vegas to get AWAY FROM KIDS! What is wrong with you, do you really want your grandaughter to be subjected to porn slappers, hookers, etc!

MAc King did a comedy/magic show at Harrah's when we were there in 2002. Very kid friendly, in fact my 9 year old daughter (at the time) was called up on stage to help him. Tickets were less than $20.
Don't worry about taking your granddaughter to Vegas. We didn't have any problems except for one jerk who yelled at us because we had our kids with us. |
Lance Burton at the Monte Carlo is a great show for kids and he does involve a kid or two from the audience which also helps the kids relate to him.

From the Zumanity website:
"ZUMANITY is a resident show at New York-New York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV. It was created for people 18 years of age and older." Therefore, it looks (from viewing the previews on the website), and sounds, as though it isn't appropriate for a ten year old child. For more info, see the website: http://www.zumanity.com |
We've had many great family vacations in LV. There are definitely kid places and places you would avoid, and it is definitely less kid-friendly than it was a few years ago. But some people hate kids and you shouldn't let them dictate to you. LV spent a lot of time and money trying to attract families. Enjoy what they have to offer.

We took our daughter there two years ago and had a great time. We're going back in March (mainly due to a required convention). She was eight last time we went and this time she'll be ten. We loved going to the Secret Garden at the Mirage (AND the dolphin show was to die for), the puppet shows (free) at Excalibur, taking the gondola ride at the Venetian, seeing the animated statues at Caesar's Palace and shopping there, and the Star Trek Experience at the Hilton. - All this in only two full days! Ignore negativity from people like phlegm - oops! phlebo.
