shower in RV
 

We wanted to rent an RV for 10 days and went thru Great Alaskan Holidays. We reserved a 27' slide for the 5 of us (3 adults/2 teens). Neither my father(6') or my husband(5'10) could stand in the shower. Does anyone have any suggestions as to another Alaskan RV company or a particular size RV that could accomodate their showers? 10 days is a long time to go without a decent shower! Thanks!

It's not so much the size of an RV, but rather the particular models/manufacturers that make the difference. Lots of RVs seem to be sized to 5'8" people, both in beds and showers, especially the cheaper ones used by rental companies. Lots of people just use the showers at the campgrounds (private ones will usually have hot showers available, though parks ones may not); it's not just the shower size, but the limited water tank capacity (fresh, hot, and drain).

They actually went into the same model RV and couldn't stand in the shower? Was the model you were thinking about a Class C (cabover). If so, you might check out their larger model that is a Class A. They might be a little talker inside. Our shower has the sunlight in it so it makes it easy to stand in. Sometimes these showers are combination bath/showers...and there is a place to sit and shower. I'm kind of surprised because I looked at the Great Alaska Holiday website and it looks like they are using Winnebago motorhomes, which are very nice.

But as curmudgeon has mentioned, if you have 5 people who want to take a shower, you will probably want a campground with hook ups and they will have hot showers...which will be a lot faster in the long run.

We had a 32' rv from Great Alaskan this summer. Hubby 6' had no problem taking a shower in it. I will say that you will need to stay in a campground with full hookups (water and sewage) if you expect 5 people to shower each day. You will spend time each day filling and emptying tanks if 5 are taking showers. I agree with the suggestion that you take showers at the campgrounds.

We just returned from a 2 week rv trip through the Kenai. Our biggest problem was the shower as our children, ages 20 & 12, couldn't shower often enough. The majority of campgrounds DO NOT have showers or they are very dirty. We used showers at laundry mats (in Seward). The holding tank for grey water would fill up after one shower & a few meals of dishes. Rather than stay in RV parks, we chose to stay in more remote Forest Service campgrounds & give up the shower idea. It was well worth it as they were in remote areas, off the beaten track & we saw lots of wildlife.

An addendum to the above post: We used Clippership RV rental in Anchorage, which I would NOT recommend. The RV was old & beaten up & was not the model we had reserved. When I complained they became very snotty & acted like they were doing us a favor taking our $2000. I hear Great Alaskan Holidays is much better.

When you don't have hook ups you have to take Navy showers. You turn the water on, get wet, turn the water off and wash your body and turn water back on and rinse off. You have to conserve, conserve, conserve!!
