Should we visit Savannah during the Music Festival?

Quick question. I am just starting to research a visit to Savannah with a possible side trip to Asheville, NC. Will visiting during the Savannah Musical Festival sometime between 3/26 - 4/11 add or detract from our visit to the city? We did Spoleto in Charleston many years ago and loved it. Is it similar to that? We are in our 60s and looking for diverse world music.
On the other hand, we really want to enjoy the architecture and history of Savannah. Will the crowds detract from that? We'd also love to do an historic homes tour.
Any thoughts or advice?
Thanks,
Laurie

I would not want to, but I am not a fan of crowds.
