Should we stay at Mandalay Bay?
Our family of 4 (2 kids aged 6 & 8) are scheduled to stay at Mandalay Bay. We chose it mainly for their pool. I just read the hotel reviews (on LVOL discussion forum) and I see they charge $20 per tube to ride the lazy river. Is that true???? What's with that? We had previously had a room at MGM but decided against that because only 3 out of 5 pools were open when we were there (April 8-11). Now I'm rethinking where we should stay. Any help out there? I've been working at this for over a month and just want to decide! Help!!!!

Hi parkcitygal,

As I mentioned in the other threat only the tubes are $20per day, it costs nothing to swim or stand and walk in the lazy river.
I have stayed at the MB several times and I think it is a very good hotel. There is also Shark Reef.
You may want to be sure that the lazy river and the beach pool are going to be open in April as the beach pool was shuuting the week after we left in November ( 10th I think)

Regards

TBS
Do they allow guests to use their own 'floaties' (noodles etc.) in the lazy river?
|
Hi,

I think they do allow your own noodles but not 100% certain.

Regards
TBS

I just spoke to the reservations person at Mandalay Bay and she suggested we bring our own tubes. So they do allow you to do that.

I just called MB myself regarding whether the pools (all of them) will be open in April. The reservation person said that they are all open now! But closed right now because its raining!! So yes all the pools will be open in April at MB, per "Annie" We are planning on bringing our own cheap tubes that we'll get at Wal-Mart and blow them up once we get there. It will save us a small fortune!

Our family of 4 is staying at MB in mid-April. Keep checking their website as the prices change constantly and we have saved alot of $ since booking in November. If you call they will give you the lowest price when its listed.

After reading other forums we have decided to rent a car. Everything seems to be so far and if you want to go somewhere other than MB it sounds like it could be quite a hike. It may save the kids some energy!

If pools are open at the MGM, I would choose that hotel. The reason is that I think your kids might be intimidated at the MB pool (because of their ages). If its spring break time, the pool will be crowded with teens and older and they can get really rambunctious. The kids will also love being able to see the lion cubs every morning and evening.

P.S. At MGM the "Emerald Tower" rooms are small and poorly located.

We just switched from MGM to Mandalay Bay BECAUSE MGM told me that only 3 out of 5 pools would be open when we're there (4/8-4/11). I think they were scheduled to open all 5 on the weekend (when we'll be gone).

Personally, I would never stay at a hotel with only 3 pools. I would go for the 5 pool hotels.
