Should we drive in the snow to see the Grand Canyon?
 

Our plan was to drive from Sedona to the Grand Canyon this Thursday (3/24) for a day trip, returning to Sedona that night. After checking weather.com it looks like snow is possible. We're not used to driving in the snow, but would probably be okay if it isn't sticking too much. Should we drive it and chance the snow in the rental car or bypass it to spend more time in Sedona? We'll be back another time to visit the area with friends, but we have never been there and wanted to take a sneak peek this time. We'd appreciate the opinions of those who are more familiar with the driving conditions in this area of AZ, especially in inclement weather. Thanks!

Nevermind, everyone. We decided to cancel our trip and reschedule to a time when the weather will be better to explore the canyon.

GO! GO! GO! There is something very special about the Grand Canyon after it snows. 30 degress at the top, 70 at the bottom. Great for picture taking. Smaller crowds. I wouldn't think twice about it. As far as driving in the snow, most roads are plowed and sanded. Just slow down a bit. What ever you do, don't miss this opportunity. You'll regret it if you do.

I agree - the GC in snow is absolutely beautiful. The year I went cars were pouring out of the park and it felt like we had the park to ourselves. NO crowds - but no problems with driving either.

Tried the GC at this same time of year a few years ago. Never saw it. The roads were not plowed and sanded, they were closed. Went south to Roswell NM and Carlsbad Caverns instead.

Well, we already canceled and it's too late to turn back now. Our flight would have left in less than two hours and we're still at home! We're going to spend a couple of days in the SF bay area instead, which is close to home. We'll reschedule this trip for another time. We're trying not to be too disappointed. We love the bay area, but this trip would have been something new for us. Another time....

Holly, probably a wise choice to cancel. I plan to visit the SF area someday, want to go to Alcatraz, and drive the bridge. Also want to eat anything at Fisherman's Wharf. My experiences have been if you go anywhere just before of just after tourist season, you will enjoy your trip more. I love the Jersey Shore or Long Island (Montauk) in early October, still warm, not enough to swim but to wade, quiet and the locals are glad the crowds are gone.
