Should we do both Old Lahaina Luau AND Feast at Lele?
 

My family (couple in our late 30's with daughter, 7 & son, 5) are going to Maui in June with another family. We're staying in Kaanapali and already have reservations for the whole group at Old Lahaina Luau.

We also want to do one night out for just the adults. I'm leaning towards the Feast at Lele but would we be better off with one of the many nice restaurants on Maui or maybe Warren & Annabelle's? Are the Old Lahaina Luau and Feast at Lele different enough to make it worthwhile going to both?

Warren & Annabelles is a 'don't miss' in my book!

IMO one luau is quite enough. I haven't been to Warren and Annabelle's but I would opt for that or a nice restaurant for the other evening...

You'll really like the Old Lahaina Luau, I believe. We sure did. Lovely setting. And take the time to walk around before the show watching the artisans and talking to the aunties. They are the real thing.

But you might consider Feast at Lele or Drums of the Pacific instead of Old Lahaina Luau. Both of them have fire-knife dancers which are the highlite of any Polynesian show. Old Lahaina Luau does not have a fire-knife dancer.

dusty gives alot of good advice, but I part with him on the knife throwing/fire included in some dances...although spectacular, I prefer the ones w/o it... but that's just me. I think most males would prefer it and esp. children!

One luau is enough, and I really enjoy the Old Lahaina Luau as well.

You also might want to consider the Ulalena show in Lahaina for your other night. It's the myth, the magic and the mystery of Maui, and definitely NOT a luau. (it's produced by the same people who do Cirque du Soleil).

I enjoyed the Old Lahaina Luau but one thing I recall it wasn't cheap and if you wanted a night out with the adults you mentioned Warren and Annabelle's and that would be a slam dunk good time for adults. They have a bar there with appetizers while the piano is playing (I don't want to spoil it for you so I am being vague) and then about an hour later the show starts and Warren is a cross between Don Rickles and a magician. I still can't figure out some stuff he did.

Again, I'm the one to dissent, not really wanting to be contrary, but I hate Don Rickles, and I LOVED Warren! If there's a similarity, it's only slight IMHO.

Thanks for all the feedback. Warren & Annabelle's seems to be the best option. I guess if we don't go to Feast at Lele it gives my wife and I and excuse to plan another trip to Hawaii (even if it's a long trip from our home in Ft. Lauderdale).

I have been to both Old Lahaina and Feast of Lele. Take the whole group to the Old Lahaina. Feast of Lele is more expensive, and while I actually like it better myself, the food is much heavier on the seafood which often kids don't like. The food is definitely better at Feast of Lele, in my humble opinion, though. If it was a few years ago, I would say adults go to the Avalon, but alas, it is no more. I haven't seen the Warren & Anabelle show, so cannot comment. There are some great restaurants in HI to choose from. An evening at the barefoot bar at the Whaler's Village is a great adult escape, and very casual and fun....Regardless, enjoy!

My thought was already been mentioned above... get tickets to see U'lalena at Myth & Magic Theater. It's an amazing and unique show about the history of the islands. Fantastic! Then go to dinner somewhere nice nearby in Lahaina afterwards.

I'm in the one luau is enough on any vacation camp and I think Old Lahaina is ideally suited for families and groups.

We did OLL and then, on a seperate night, had an "adults only" night with dinner at Pacific O's. Unbeknowst to us at the time, the restaurant is literally next to the activities at the Feast. Food is fantastic at Pacific-O's (one of the best meals we have ever had) and the sunsets just spectacular.

With that said, my daughter (7 at the time) went with us to OLL. She (and other kids I saw around us)did not have a good time. Although she is not an especially picky eater (for her age at least), she did not like any of the food.

Personally, I thought OLL was over rated (I know I am in the minority on this). While the dancers and story line are beautiful, I was disappointed with our seating arrangements (we made reservations months early) and the overall service.

Finally, Dusty was right on about the fire dancing and knife throwing. As Belle pointed out, the kids really like seeing that. I think my daughter was most disappointed about the OLL not having this.
