Should we buy Binoculars to watch the whales in Maui?

We plan to get on a whale cruise. So, should we both get some to see the whales?

We would also like to look for whales while on the beach.

Any thoughts, any recommendations?

Yes.

Also take them on any hikes where you will be close to the ocean. Sometimes you can spot monk seals or sea turtles.

You can see whales from almost any beach on the west or south side. Sometimes they are fairly close. Other times they are a distance & binoculars would be good.

This link has a lot of humpback whale info including places to see them from shore:

Mrs. Jed and I travel with one pair of small and light 'nox'. Just like other doodads, (GPS), they keep getting better and cheaper. We share, which is fine for us.

We took pocket binoculars that worked pretty well. When you are on land, scan the horizon for what looks like a puff of smoke--you will usually be able see a whale jumping, tail slapping, breaching--loved watching the whales.

Yes for the binoculars!

However when I was last at the beach there were many whales and I didn't need or want binoculars to see any of them. You should have seen the guy three chairs down from us! He was huge!

We took a smaller pair and wished we'd had more power. We could sit on our Westin balcony and spot the whales very easily.

Didn't do a whale cruise, used that money for more nights at Hula Grill.

You don't have to spend an arm and a leg. Look in the Cabela's catalog, or I have seen some nice compact ones at Tuesday Morning. Target.
