Should I switch from Mirage to Venetian for just $20 more?
 

Hi fodorites, I have one more Vegas question. We stay at the Mirage every year and have reservations this year as well.

I just noticed that if I book thru hotwire I can get the Venetian for only $20 more than what I'm paying at the Mirage, but that price is only for 1 night. So I'll be spending 4 nights at the Mirage, and then my last night in Vegas I could switch to the Venetain. Is it worth the switch, or too much of a hassle for only one night?

THere's the advantage that the Venetian is very close to the Mirage, but in my opinion, it's too cumbersome and annoying to check into a Las Vegas hotel, so I don't think it's worth the trouble. The rooms at the Venetian are nice, but not that nice (and in the opinion of some, not as nice---though larger---than those in the Mirage).

I have to differ -- I love the rooms at the Venetian, at least those I stayed in in the Venezia tower last year, and I think the change would be fun. But I am a big hotel lover, and tend to really love a good hotel room, and spend more time in it more than others might...

I'd say that a standard "room" at the Venetian is much nicer than a standard room at the Mirage, especially the bathroom. I usually stay at two places when I go to Las Vegas (based on where I can get comped rooms) and I don;t find it particularly bothersome to check in to a new hotel. Yes, you do lose some time but not all that much.

However, whether it is worth it or not for you, I can't say. Why do you want to switch? If it is to establish play at the Venetian with the hope of getting room offers in the future, then I'd say do it. If it is just to experience a different room, then probably more of a hassle than it is worth.

It is something I would do because I am a hotel junkie.

Since they are practically right across the street from each other you could probably do so without needing a taxi.

The rooms at the Venetian are definitely larger than the comparable room in the Mirage. Unlike the Editor I'll stay away from subjective terms such as "nice' and stick to the facts.

I agree with the others, though, that for $20 and for one night I wouldn't do it. I WOULD do it if staying in that hotel is something you'd really like to do.

Common sense says stay at the Mirage for your entire stay, but why not be a little wild while you're in Las Vegas and switch to the Venetian for one night? It will be a move you will talk about until the end of your days. Besides, after four nights at the Mirage, you'll be ready to spread out a little. (Also, during the time it takes you to move from hotel to hotel you won't be throwing money away in a casino.)

NORMALLY, this is a no-brainer. Mirage vs Venetian?? Hmmm.....

But if it's only for 1 night, as others have said, it might be too much of hassle. I would do it though, especially if you've never stayed at the Venetian.

Not worth it. Packing , unpacking , moving , shlupping across the street with luggage. Then having to ask for a late check-out and then an early check-in. No way ! You might even have to "grease" a few palms and were not even talking about a tip to the bell boy. Just to save $20.00 take the twenty and bet red at the roulette table.

bobrad - You do realize that none of this is to save any money? The changing of rooms would cost $20 more, not less.

I don't enjoy changing hotel rooms, and don't care enough about staying at Venetian to bother with this type of move.

If you want to stay at Venetian, do it? If you don't have a particularly strong urge to stay there, though, I'm wondering why you're considering it. And if you do, why are you questioning it?

check-out time = 11AM
check-in time = 3PM
which means you will have to store your bags at the Venetian until your room is available, which mean you should tip the baggage handler that stores them AND then the bellman that brings them up for you later.
IMHO...put the $20. on the blackjack table.

Hmmm... it looks like everyone is split on this. I would like to make the switch just to see a different room, but my husband is a bit hesitant. I just wanted to get some advice on how different the rooms might be, and then go from there. Thanks for all the replies. Still not sure what to do, I'll have to talk to my husband.

I don't remember seeing people rolling their luggage on the strip. Usually you fly in, take a taxi or a shuttle, same on the way back.

These 2 hotels are across from each other... do you want to get in the fabulous Venetian on foot dragging your suitcases?

listen, if you're a hotel freak, it's definitely worth it! Plus, I think 4 days in Vegas is actually quite a long time for this locale, and it'll break things up a bit...it shouldn't take more than an hour of your time...

Faina - I guess you have never seen me in Vegas. I always walk when changing hotels (usually from Venetian to Caesars) - rolling my luggage along.

Nothing is out of sync with luggage in Vegas- or without. LOL!

I wouldn't do it. Why are you staying at the same place each year if you are such a hotel room junkie? I don't mean that sarcastically. Are you getting comps for play?

You should never stay at the same hotel year after year unless you are getting it for free or part free, IMHO. I'm not a big roller in any sense, and I'm comped rooms all the time in the mail and haven't been back to LV for 2 years now.

If you are playing at ALL in any one place, please get a card or a table tally and get it documented. That way you at least will get it for free the next time.

The Venetian is nice, but I would never, ever do all that rigamarole for 1 night. At least if it was to a different part of the Strip, off Strip or downtown it might make more sense. If you are not gambling, eating or whatever- you will see get to see some close areas that are entirely different- or be closer to different shows.

It's just my opinion that the newer rooms are not worth the money people are paying for them recently. Nor are they all that different from each other. You aren't buying the square footage.

I was just comped the Monte Carlo for 3 nights and also Harrah's- good until March 31. I wish I could give them away here.
