we are traveling with an RV and are planning to arrive in Yosemite at the end of a two month trip - which should be around the last week of September.
is it a must to pre-reserve camping within the park? i hate to limit myself for something so late in the trip...

Yes - you definitely need to pre-book an RV campsite. And as soon as you know what your dates might be. You can always cancel later -- but then might not be able to re-book for different dates and have to change your plans.

I think you can cancel up to 3 days in advance and I believe you can cancel partial reservations - double check to be sure. If this is the case, what I would do is reserve a site for more time than you think you will stay and then when are closer, cancel the dates you wont need.

Yosemite is extremely popular, and all month of September is the high season.
