Should I drive to the Dodgers game?
 

I have about 4 hours of driving experience on the right side of the road in LA traffic and I am contemplating driving to Dodger Stadium from West Hollywood for the game tonight.
Am I insane?

Is there a way to get there using public transport? I dont fancy having to try an get a cab after the game but dont want to spend 2 hours, bumper to bumper trying to escape the car park. Is there a place to park close to the stadium that would make for an easier escape.

Please help!

It's been a few years since I was at Dodger stadium -- and yes there will be traffic but driving would be the best way to go IMO. It used to have open parking -- but now apparently you must park in the area where you enter - so that is actually a bit easier for a newbie. Just follow the signs and after you enter the parking gate -- you will park in a designated area.

If you go early -- and you'd get to see batting practice -- the traffic won't be bad. Afterwards, everyone will be at a crawl until you get away from the immediate neighborhood.

I think it is kind of crazy. You can just wait until Monday and then you could drive down to Angels Stadium in Anaheim to see the Angels. O:)

But if you actually want to see Dodger Stadium then there is a bus from Union Station: losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/la/ballpark/public_transportation.jsp

It is really no big deal to drive. They do herd you in with the other cars, so you won't have much choice of where to park (if you haven't left yet for the game). But, the traffic is bad and moves slowly.

I think parking is a whopping $15 there (compared to $8 in Anaheim).

So maybe you aren't confident about driving on the right side of the road? Not to worry, nobody around here drives very well in L.A. anyway.

From what I recall, getting out of the parking lot at Dodger Stadium is much more complicated than getting in. If the game's not close, you might want to slip out before the end of the 9th inning. Otherwise, plan on a long crawl down the hill.

Actually -- that would put them in the heaviest traffic. Dodger fans come late and leave early - known fact :D ;)

(And if they went to the game -- they are already there and the home team is down 4 so the cars are streaming out . . . . .)

My Dad was at the opening game at "Chavez Ravine" (Dodger Stadium) in 1962! (Before that the Dodgers played at the LA Coliseum.) My family had a field box and I attended a ton of games in the 70's and 80's. It's still one of the most beautiful stadiums in the country.

We used to park "heading out" on Stadium Way to get a jump on the exiting traffic. You probably can't do that any more!

Just got back from the game. Took longer getting there than getting home.

We stayed until the end, spent about 25 minutes getting out of the carpark and were in West Hollywood in about 50 minutes all up.

There was a mass exodus at the bottom of the 8th but around 2 thirds of the crowd stayed ubtil the end.

Great experience and I'm very glad we choose to drive.

Mom, it was the Dodgers AND the Angels. Freeway series.

hahah silly me - I looked at that afterwards Jean - I saw the Angels were there todayand figured that he saw them last night. I am partial to Angel Stadium myself.

The food's better at Angel Stadium, but I think Dodger Stadium is more pleasing aesthetically (as long as you don't need the use the restrooms).

I didn't need to use the restroom as the beers were 10 bucks each. And they tasted like water!! The Dodger Dog was OK but not fantastic.

Looking forward to the game at AT&T.

Still divided on if I should go to the Lakers game on Tuesday. I can get Tix for $500, but really need to buy 2 as Joel will disown me if I go alone.

Petco is actually my favorite Southern California Park :)
