short trip suggestions from NYC

Hello all,

We'll be in NYC at the end of April for two days one week and have four days of leisure before having to be back another two days the next week. Would love to get away for the four days, preferably somewhere warm that has direct flights no more than three hours away. Had my heart set on Great Exuma, Bahamas but I can't find any direct flights. Don't want to spend alot of time getting to/from our destination. Prefer quiet, intimate places so Miami is not a consideration but if there are other options for Florida I'd be interested in hearing about them. We're heading to Sanibel Island next week and have been to Bermuda which is another possibility but would prefer somewhere we haven't been yet. Any suggestions on what might suit would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, as always.

Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands?

There are some nice B&B scattered all over Florida and April should be nice weather by then.

If you are considering a trip to The Bahamas, you might look at lovely resort on Nassau owned by Island Outpost, cute brightly colored cabins right on the water, www.islandoutpost.com. Flying into the Bahamas to the outislands can be a bit of a pain, most of the fligts go through Nassau or connect in Miami. If you want a wonderful tip, try Harbour Island. You can fly from here to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale and a direct flight from there to Eleuthera and a short cab/water taxi ride and you are in heaven.
My fav place to stay there is Runway Hill www.runawayhill.com or Coral Sands but there are other places that would fit just about any budget. also try www.myharbourisland.com.

Hope this helps and have a great time.

Thanks so much for your prompt replies! I will check into Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands but suspect they're too far. Travelbuff, I appreciate the info re:island outpost but when I click on the link it only refers to hotels in Jamaica. Having trouble locating anything in Bahamas. I did come across a place in Nassau called Compass Point that sounds like it might suit. I had not heard many good things about Nassau so didn't really consider it but will continue to have a look at that possibility. Thanks again!

Somewhere along the Maryland coast? How about D.C.? Charleston, South Carolina or Mt.Pleasant? Savannah?

{How about the L.I. shore? Coney Island? (just kidding, sort of, but I love NYC in the spring!)}

Hi Starfish1

Have you tried posting on the Caribbean board? Maybe use a title like "Need Island with direct flights from NY"

People on the US board may be able to help, but I'll bet you'll get more help on the Caribbean board.

Good luck.

How about the area around Jupiter, about a half-hour north of PBI (West Palm Beach), 2:50 from New York. It's a relatively quiet area, with good restaurants, and with excellent shopping in nearby WPB.

A friend has a condo down there that overlooks the Intercoastal Waterway. We'll actually be visiting April 1 through April 4. The first time we ever went to that part of Florida, the serenity of the area did a lot to alter my preconception of the entire state.

Maximum of a three hour plane ride without a transfer. Play with Espedia and Kayak.

Has anyone used the site where you could plug in your budget and the distance from your home or starting point and alist of suggestions would come up? I've completely forgotten what it is but it was kind of nifty.

I think it was travelocity dreammaps.com but not sure if it,s still around. Jetblue.com has lots of nonstops to warm places.

Hi mclaurie: I don't know if it was dreammaps but that link didn't work so I'm assuming they're not around any longer. Thanks, though.
