short time...big memories, please
we will be in chicago on business in mid september. the company will be paying for the first couple of nights...the last two will be on us. price is of some consideration...I don't want to spend five hundred per nite...but two to three is okay. I would like to be close to unique shopping, museums, great food...and I want an exceptionally clean and comfortable room. a couple of nites of pampering...too much to ask? thanks,
pat

You must check rates at the Peninsula.
This is my favorite hotel in Chicago, having stayed at all the top ones over the years. Zagat rated the Pen Chicago the top hotel in the USA this year. Its location is tops, decor is great, rooms classic luxury, service outstanding....it has everything.
What's more, the rates have always been well below those at the Four Seasons, Ritz (Four Seasons owned), Park Hyatt, etc. I've stayed 5 times since it opened without a bit of disappointment.
If you can swing it, reserve a corner suite. They often run as low as ~$335 if you can find a website special, etc.

Try some web sites for good rates (quikbook, washingtonhotels-which does other cities also). The Peninsula is currently the finest hotel in Chicago if you can afford it. Also nice are the Intercontinental (great location, great pool), Suissotel (spelling?-beautiful lake view), Omni (suites, great location). Although the Marrioott has a great location, it's just a Marriott and you can usually get nicer places in Chicago.

Not a highend place, but I loved Le Meridien. Excellent white down and high quality linen, affordable and the concierge booked me an in room massage the day of my arrival. Of course with the company paying a couple of nights there would be better choices. Also try quickbook.com which allows you to cancel thru them or the hotel which is convenient if the prices go down. Good Luck.

thanks for all the suggestions. we stayed at the park hyatt...and were very pleased. the service was great...the consieurge arranged tickets to all the shows we wanted to see. the bed was turned down with fresh flowers scattered about and cookies for a late nite snack...upon our return from the evening. wonderful bath...very clean accomodations. I loved Chicago and the hotel...
