Short Notice
Just saw this 2011 post and feel I am in the same position now as this woman was back then. Her wish list almost exactly mirrors mine (except for the fishing part.)
I’m about to be 55 in a couple of weeks. I a married for 25 years. I have a daughter, son in law and dranddaughter who live with me and my husband. I love my family dearly and enjoy spending time with them. However, they can it can be somewhat stressful at times. I just realized that I have a long weekend available this coming weekend to do this. I’ve never solo traveled but find the need To get away. Some place where I can “gain focus and clarity, relax, renew, and care for no one but myself” as stated in the original post. I live in Westchester County of New York State and would like to be able to drive to a destination within 1-3 hours. My budget is a a bit limited (400 to 600.) I realize this is probably impossible due to the extremely short notice and budget constraints but ANY suggestions would be immensely appreciated... Would be the ideal setting (at least what I imagine to be ideal)... -natural -quiet -private -serene -safe -a view from my room so incredibly beautiful that this element alone would daily leave me in awe. -**Most importantly, I need to see, hear, feel... Water.....beautiful crystal clear water, be it a stream, beach, lagoon, river or lake. Not necessities, but would enjoy: -massage -fishing (would love to learn to fly fish) -waterfalls -location considered to be one of the most beautiful spots in the world -optional local excursions *I'm a sappy, sentimental visual type, moved my the simplest things. Any suggestion greatly appreciated. I'm determined to take this trip and do the necessary work to finally...take care of me. |
Perhaps one of the cooking school B and Bs? I've seen ads for some in PA. My late DH and I enjoyed Inn at Meander Plantation but that is in VA and probably too far.
Nemacolin in PA is a lovely place--can't say about prices though. Good luck with this and with resetting, rosael. |
Check out Cranwell spa in Lenox MA., or Mohonk Mtn house near New Paltz.
Leaf color is peak right now in the Berkshires, so it should still be nice next weekend even if past peak. |
Look at the Ocean House Hotel in Watch Hill, RI. It might be a bit off season for them so you might get a deal.
|
Never been there but the Rhinecliff Hotel is right on the Hudson for a view and the Rhinecliff area has many relaxing things to do.
|
But short notice reservations for a weekend in the Fall will be hard to get and most probably expensive.

Mystic, CT has some great inns and you've got that old town nautical vibe.
Google hotels with water views. Google is your friend..put in all that you want and see what it spits out. Mid week should be cheaper vs. Weekend with the leaf peepers. Latrobe, PA is another thought. Best to you! |
Can your family give you a little cash for an early birthday present so you can spend a bit more for your getaway?
