short driving scenic trips from NYC

Hello. <BR>I am interested in finding some really nice, short 2-4 hour driving scenic trips from NYC. Any suggestions?

I can see calling 2 hours short, but 4 hours is more like a medium drive to me. For that kind of distance you could practically be talking from Boston to Montreal to Baltimore. You sort of need to narrow it down a little more. If you want to limit to 2 hours then you might have an simpler task to choose. You should also look through the old posts, there are loads of ideas about Hudson/Mohawk valley and Pennsylvania areas.

If you mean a total of 4 hours drive time from start to finish, you could drive north along the Hudson River in New York State, or drive to the Delaware Water Gap at the Pennsylvania/New Jersey border.

I'm a native of NYC and you can't do any better for scenery and history than driving alongside the Hudson River, up the East Side of the River as far as New Hyde Park (make time to visit FDR & Elenor Roosevelt). Coming back, cross one the bridges to the West side of the Hudson. Be sure to stop at West Point, the view of the Hudson is spectacular from there. Take this drive on a nice day. The CIA (culinary institute) is near New Hyde Park and, if they're serving lunch, you won't be disappointed.Or, even better, have an early supper there. You'll be back in NYC in plenty of time to go to a club.

Oops! Meant Hyde Park. FDR's & Elenor's home are both part of the National Park system.
