Shoreham Hotel or Sheraton Manhattan?

Both of these hotels are the same price and are located close to each other. I've seen good things on fodors about Shoreham but nothing on The Sheraton Manhattan. Any suggestions?

Cindy:
Hi!
The Sheraton Manhattan is in a great location. It used to be called the Americana years ago. It was taken over by Sheraton and renovated.
I think it caters to the business class.
I hope howard will see this, he has pretty good insight!
Have a great time in NYC!

Yes, AC, I see this posting! You are right on the mark about the Sheraton Manhattan and its history. It's a very nice hotel in a great location for tourists at 52nd and 7th Avenue.
Sorry, but I don't know the Shoreham.

The Sheraton, as previously stated, is a large, business oriented hotel. Its location is convenient to Broadway theatres, shopping and restaurants. The Shoreham is a smaller, "boutique" hotel. The rooms are small but attractively furnished.
If you prefer a larger, full service hotel then the Sheraton may work best for you. If a more unique but limited service hotel is of more interest go with the Shoreham.

Cindy, I did a review of the Shoreham Hotel as "One Traveler's Opinion: The Shoreham Hotel, New York" which you can find with a search in the archives.

There are two Sheratons cater-corner from one another on 7th Avenue: the Sheraton New York is a 50-story, 1500-room hotel. If you can get a room above the 30th floor, you have both nice views and very little street noise (the worst problem with New York hotels). The Sheraton Manhattan, across the street, is a smaller, 16-story older hotel that has been renovated as a business traveler's property.

Thanks to everyone for the insight. We booked the Sheraton Manhattan. We got it for what I believe was a great price on quickbook.com. $159 a night. The shoreham was the same price. I'll let you know how it was when we get back.
Thanks again!

A correction: AC and I were in saying that the Sheraton Manhattan is the old Americana. That's the Sheraton New York, which is diagonally across the street. The Sheraton Manhattan is the former City Squire.
But, don't fret Cindy, it's still a nice hotel. And, it's one of the few NYC hotels with a swimming pool!
