Shoreham Hotel

My husband and I are taking my in-laws to New York for the first time. We are thinking about staying at the Shoreham. Has anyone stayed there and is the location good? Thanks.

Kris, the location is really good. On 55th between 5th and 6th if my memory serves me correctly (I could be wrong so double check). It's a funky boutique style hotel.

Seems like the rooms can be a crapshoot when it comes to size. My cousins got a room that was very small, with a bathroom the size of a closet (I'm not kidding you). But it was interestingly furnished, with lots of chrome. I think they later found out they were in an older part of the hotel. They got a rate of $169 a night, when I thought was pretty decent for NYC.

If you do a search here for "Shoreham", there are some good reviews. There's one called "One Traveller's Opinion: The Shoreham Hotel, New York" by Neal Sanders that might be of interest to you.
the shoreham is one of our favorite hotels...and a great little restaurant, La Bonne Soupe, is across the street. I agree that the size of the rooms differs greatly. but they are really cool...

Kris,
We stayed at the Shoreham a couple of years ago and we liked it very much. I would not call it "funky." It's small and sleek in an artistic/industrial sort of way. We asked for a quiet corner room in the new section, on an upper floor, and we got it. I don't know what street we were facing, but we weren't troubled by noise. Yes, it was rather compact, but ingeniously arranged so that we were comfortable and did not feel claustrophobic. I especially liked the fresh flower on my nightstand and in the bathroom. They no longer serve a continental breakfast, which is too bad, because it was great. Bed linens and complimentary robes were first class. The location is very good--you couldn't have a better spot if you want to be right in the middle of a classy neighborhood. Right across 5th Avenue is the St. Regis, which I advise you to visit to peek at their beautiful bar.

location is good, but the room I had was claustrophobic. A friend came to visit and had to sit on the bed. Room for one queen bed, and just one nightstand, not even two! No place to put suitcase on to open it, just bed.
Bathroom was long and narrow, but larger than I expected

any new info on the shoreham? i've seen it on biddingfortravel.com as low as $75 and was thinking of bidding - but wanted to find out if anyone has stayed here recently?

I have friends who have stayed there and the above comments echo theirs. Terry, I'm intriqued by your question of whether anyone has stayed there recently. All the above posts which seem pretty identical have been in the last three months. Do you think it has changed significantly in that time?

I'd suggest the Roger Williams on Madison Ave as another good suggestion. It is close to everything midtown and is well priced. The entire hotel had a major facelift a couple of years ago and it has gotten some really good reviews. I had a client and his wife stay there a year ago and loved it, for the price and location. They said the staff was great and the rooms were good size.

This is an update on the Shoreham. We stayed there over Thanksgiving. Priceline got the room for $210. Very funky, but clean and staff were friendly. Very small rooms, but beds were very comfortable. Convenient location to Radio City and Rockefeller Center. Good restaurants and great Irish pub adjacent. If you are traveling with a child and stay there, better bring a blow-up mattress. Our rooms were not big enough to accomodate a roll-away.
