Shops & Food near Airport in San Diego

I am driving to the SD airport to pick someone up and need a few hours of a place near the airport to avoid rush hour traffic.

Is the Gaslamp or the Seaport area nice...and convenient? I will have a dog with me so would like a place dog friendly

As I look at a map, which is most convenient to airport: Old Town, Gaslamp Quarter, or Seaport Village? I will have a car

It really won't make any difference between any of those neighborhoods. All are very close to the airport.

have you seen Liberty station on your map? it's just on the other side of the airport and it would be a good place to go with a dog. there is lots of grassy areas and also places to eat.

It depends on what time of day and which freeway you will be traveling on as to how much traffic you will have. You may not have much. You could go to the park across from the airport - it's right on the bay. Otherwise, I would go to Liberty Station and hang out. Or if you want a good lunch on Emerson St., is Point Loma Seafood.

Hey, I was just in SD very close to the airport and would advise you to check out Old Town. There is plenty of parking in that area and you can walk around with your dog, grab something good to eat and relax. The airport is only 2 miles away. Have fun!

How long a time will you have?
What do you plan to do? Is it a little dog you can stuff into your purse and take into a shop or a large dog tied up?

If you want to let your dog off leash so it can run, go to Fiesta Island for a walk. It's fairly close to downtown but rustic.

On leash and pretty Balboa Park, Old Town or any of the above suggestions.
