Shopping @ Woodberry or...

Hi All,

Im flying over to NY in mid july and have been told about woodberry common and the large amount of stores there. this will be my first trip to NY and i dont want to spent TOO much time shopping, so can anyone tell me whether its better to spend one day at woodberry or spend the day @ Macy's et al?

thanks

for price and various brand selections, you can't beat woodbury...plus you get to see the scenic mountains...just get there early!!

however, if you don't want to spend $ or shopping is not your primary focus then any big retailers like macy/bloomies would do for a couple hrs...however, prices there are not all enticing...

Woodbury Commons would be an all-day trip, as it's a little over an hour from the city and has a ton of stores. It's a great place with great deals!

Another good option is Jersey Gardens...it's an outlet mall in Elizabeth, NJ...a lot closer than Woodbury.

I suggest you stay away from Macy's....not only is it extremely crowded, it's become kind of a dump lately. Bloomies is better, and Century 21 (right next to ground zero) is the best designer discount store in NY. It's also very crowded, but most big stores in NYC are.

Woodbury is hit or miss. You can arrive with the bus loads of tourists, and shoppers,be crammed into small stores with nothing but too large/small sized clothing wadded up on tables, lines at all the restaurants and find nothing for a bargain.
I would stay in the city. While Macy's is not everyones cup of tea,it is no worse than struggling over a discount rack with a hundred other women in WCommons.
There are plenty of small boutiques and stores in NYC that offer bargains in th summer.
Mid July you might hit the summer sales, Soho has plenty of great shops that have really good sales.
Happy shopping!

My experience at WC is quite the opposite of the above poster and I've been there several times, both at XMAS and in the summer. Was there last week with my GF who always has a hard time finding small sizes and she found almost everything she wanted, prices were great.

It also depends what you are shopping for, they have some very high end products at discounted but still high prices. I can't imagine paying the prices for some of the Prada and Miu Miu clothes. I think women's clothing is better at WC compared to men's which I've found better deals at other outlets.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AT WOODBURY--it is huge, tons of people, and half the stuff is no great bargain. IF YOU WANT A GREAT STORE--GOT TO CENTURY 21--IT IS THE BEST. THERE IS ALSO LOHEMAN'S (SP?). NYC has so much to offer, there is no need to go to the boonies, for Woodbury. Shop below 14th street. Union Square, SOHO, etc. Have fun!

What kind of view??? The highway? the hills in the background?
Shopping at WC is just a mess, and if your time is limited, stay in the city, there are more than enough good places to buy not too expensive clothes.

Just another idea. An advantage of going to Woodbury is that if you have a car you can visit the Storm King sculpture park which is nearby and very peaceful and beautiful.

I take the bus to Woodbury a few times a year and usually find that the bargains on clothes make the trip worthwhile. Plus it's fun to get out of the city and Macy's makes me crazy. But Century 21 is awesome too.
