shopping NYC 16yr old girl
I done a search but would love any names of shops in NYC a 16 year old and her Mom should not miss. We have been before and will not miss Fifth Ave and of course H&M but are there any secrets anyone would love to share on hip and trendy stores we shouldn't miss. Since we have done most of the sightseeing before shopping is high on our list.
Thanks in advance Karen |
When I'm in NY, I love shopping in the Village (Greenwich Village)...especially hip and trendy shops are Purdy Girl 220 Thompson Street (bet. Bleecker & W. 3rd Sts)
(212) 529-8385 and Urban Outfitters 628 Broadway (bet. Houston & Bleecker Sts.)(212) 475-0009. |
My friend's 16-year old likes American Eagle; there are several around the city. One of them is in Union Square and I've seen several other trendy clothes stores within a block or two of that one.

Mexx right next door to H&M on Fifth Avenue and A/X (Armani Exchange ) across the street.

my teen likes all of the above, as well as pearl river, a chinese store for everything, and you have to check out whole foods union square (no clothing) but great food...

Do you have an Anthropologie where you live? I love that store and they have a new flagship in Rockefeller Center.
Also, go to Bendel's or Saks and get a makeover--that's always fun for a teenager (and a Mom, too, I assume). Does she like vintage shopping? There was a great thread on that fairly recently. |
My daughter (17) like Loehman's. She always seems to find stylish name brand items there at good discounts. Of non-discount stores she likes Urban Outfitter. She also loves thrift shops (lots in the village area). She thought the salvation army store in Jersey City was the greatest!

We go to NYC every August for a mother/daughter back to school/end of summer fling. My daughter is 16 this summer and she also likes H&M also a store called "Strawberry". My daughter isn't hard to please though, we live in a small town in the middle of nowhere with no shopping!

If you're going to be uptown, there are several stores on Third Ave in the 70's that might appeal, like Big Drop, Scoop, etc.

I love montmartre. There's one in the TW center and they have other locations in the city, as well.
|
Canal Street where all the handbags and sunglasses are.
|
Century 21- They have a lot of designers at discount prices- but you have to have the patience to sort through things.
|
Re Century 21, it takes not just patience to sort through things, it takes a lot of time, and there can be lines for the dressing rms., etc. For us (14 yr old girl and Mom) Century 21 was not a good use of time for us on a previous trip to NYC.
