Shopping in New Orleans
Hi. I will be in New Orleans this weekend on a business trip. I hope to have some time to shop. I will be looking for good quality women's clothing. DH will have the car so I will be on foot in the area around the Hotel Monteleone. Any suggestions?

Although I can be of no help whatsoever, I have to say I have never thought of NOLA as a place to shop. The street you are staying on is loaded w/galleries & antique shops which is what I most closely link to 'shopping' in Nola. I am not sure about what is now open on Canal, but since you are only a couple of steps away, I would meander down to Canal (St.) & take a look there as well. There is also some interesting stuff in the French Market (as well as a lot of junk). Not sure about the Mall near the River either.

There is the mall just on the other side of Canal, next to the convention center. I was there several years back - DH needed jacket, so we went over there to find one - it appeared to be pretty nice with a good variety of stores. Mostly standard mall shops. I don't remember what the anchor stores are.
I noticed some boutique style women's clothing stores on Royal St. I wasn't really in shopping mode when I have been to New Orleans though - except for a few souveniers and things. |
There's a Saks Fifth ave. at the shoppes at Canal Place which is about a 1/2 mile from your hotel.

The RiverWalk is open which is the shopping center near the river and the convention center plus Canal Place is also open, where Saks is located and I believe they have a few other shops like "White House/Black Market", "Banana Republic", "Ann Taylor", etc. http://www.theshopsatcanalplace.com/...ing.cfm?fl=all.
That's probably it for the area where you are staying. I think there is a gift shop in the Monteleone that sells some clothing items. If you can manage to get transportation, Lakeside Mall is located on Veterans Blvd and Causeway Blvd. Also, if you are staying at the Monteleone, don't forget to have a cocktail in the Carousel Lounge. |
SAnParis, I know you are right. I don't think of NOLA as a shopping destination....but, since the shopping in Pinnacle, NC is the pits (unless you are seriously into overalls) I grab every opportunity!
Thanks, everyone for the suggestions. |
PS be, I will definitely take in the Carousel bar. It looks like such fun!
