Shopping in Hatteras
 

I,m spending a week in Hatteras with 30 people this summer and i,m looking for the best place to buy all the food.

Hi! We spent a week in Hatteras last July. There are Food Lions all along the main highway. Route 12? The nearest one to Hatteras is only about a 4 mile drive and prices are reasonable. One thing I advise you to do is bring plenty of bottled water. The tap water is not very tasty!

The nearest Food Lion to Hatteras Village is in Avon which is more than four miles away...more like 10-12...but it is a larger supermarket than the Burris Red&White in Hatteras Village itself.

You may already be on your way here, but just in case. I am not sure if you are staying in Hatteras village or on Hatteras Island. The Food Lion is in the village of Avon on Hatteras Island and will have everything you need, including bottled water. If you can avoid shopping (especially for 30 people) on a Saturday afternoon/early evening. Busy time and long lines. The Buras Red and White is in Hatteras Village and has been there for years, great place for what you need during the week, probably not the spot for a big shopping trip.
(FYI the water system has been updated in past few years, better than it used to be . . . but not mountain spring water.
