you think you have it bad in PA...I live in and it is a FELONY to ship wine into the state.

In the 4 years that we've been going to Sonoma, we've seen the laws change quite a bit. In KY, we have big problems. 4 years ago, we had to carry it all home. A year later, some wineries used 3rd party shippers. The next year, we started joining wine clubs who would ship provided we were physically at the winery to sign up. Last year, we only encountered a couple who didn't ship. We have one wine club that delivers to my DHs office in Ohio. So, even though you hear one thing, when you get out there it's different. And the poor employees, it drives them nuts trying to keep up with all the laws and changes. We shipped lots to ourselves- the only state that I heard it was outlawed was NJ and I think Utah has some strict laws, too.

Perhaps you can check with an online retailer such as wine.com and a) see if they ship to PA and b) see if they happen to have the same wines available online as the ones you will find at the wineries. I know they won't have everything, but they have a wide selection. And in any case a company like that will know about the current shipping rules.

Plan B: i have a house just across the border in NY state...and you can ship it there...and I won't open it, I promise (only because my wine cellar is now going to outlast me, no matter how long I live...sigh)

Thanks for all of your great advice! I think we are going to start by calling the wineries we are interested in! But, I think we will probably wind up bringing it on the plane with us.
I appreciate all of the help!
Cabovacation: THanks for the offer but we live close to Philadelphia! I am sure some people would like to help you with your wine cellar issue...

I really didn't mean to imply that I have a HUGE wine collection....just that as I age my ability to imbibe is waning....

It is such great fun to taste and purchase wine at the wineries!
