I'm no fan of Sheratons, I'll note from the outset, but this one is only a few months old and is a very well done, non-cookie-cutter hotel. It's attached to a new convention center and very well located for interstate access, and retail access.
Lobby and public areas are combination of modern and earthy, lots of stone, earth tones and contempo metal sculpture. There are no other really nice hotels in Overland Park, so you made the right choice.

Actually my comment was that there are no other "really nice" hotels.
The Marriott is not a "really nice" hotel. It's a 1970's style hotel which is not a lot better than a Courtyard, except that it has a few more services on site. It's very vanilla.

I haven't stayed at the Marriott in a long time, but have had recent good experiences in the restaurant and at functions in the Ball rooms.

I did a walk through of the new Sheraton just before it opened, when they had the grand opening of the convention center. It looked OK (other than the sample rooms being small), but nothing that would lead me to consider it "really nice" or bring me to choose it over the Marriott. Or even over the Double Tree, though I haven't been in it in a while.

Being an X Bellman from the OP Marriott I have to say it still is the Best Hotel in the OP area.
