Sheraton Maui or Maui Marriott Ocean Club
Can get comprable rates at both properties. Sheraton has better location, but Marriot looks like better rooms and pool. Anyone seen both?
Thanks!

You are right. The Marriott has better pools. It is also closer to shopping and restaurants. However, the beach in front of the Sheraton has excellent snorkeling whereas that is not true of the Marriott.

We stayed at the Sheraton a number of times before buying a timeshare week at the Marriott several years ago.
Marriott: better rooms (suites w/ separate bedrooms, kitchenette, 2 bathrooms - depending on what you request), better pool area, much larger lawn areas for lounge chairs and bar service, better beach cabanas, a bit closer walk to Whaler's Village, more recently renovated and tends to be better kept up
Sheraton: right on Black Rock, better beach, better breakfast/dining options, might be a bit quieter
Our biggest selling points with the Marriott were the kitchen amenities, pool area and nicer rooms.

We loved the Sheraton because our room was on the Black Rock, looking out on the ocean and sunset. Getting there, however, requires three elevator rides. Good exercise and beautiful views as you walk from one to the next. The room's view is worth the hike. It's nicely furnished, if not luxuriously.
The snorkeling is very good and very convenient. The pool is not as elaborate as some, but if you primarily want to sit around it, read, order food and drinks, and relax, it's great. However, I must say that we were there in April when the hotel seemed to be far short of maximum capacity, so it was not crowded.
Walking up the beach on the path provided allows you to go by many of the other hotels and drop in to an oceanside restaurant for lunch or dinner. So the Sheraton is very convenient.

We stayed at the Marriott and loved it but we still love the Hyatt the best. You can easily walk down to snorkel near the Sheraton. I also suggest going down there for the torch lighting. We enjoyed it.
We found that we were often on the go and it was nice to come back to the nice pool and rooms at the Marriott. It's not like you'd spend all your time at the beach in front of the Sheraton.

Keep in mind that because the beach in front of the Sheraton is wider than the rest of Kaanapali, and is at Black Rock, it's also very busy. I've visited both properties, but not stayed at either -- from the outside, the Sheraton seems more "low key", very quiet pool, etc. The Marriott is more upscale and the pool is definitely more resort-worthy.

Ok-it's getting close! Last posts was in May-and Marriott reviews are going downhill. I was leaning towards the Marriott (like the nice pool and BBQ) but has anyone been there in the past couple months?

Well-I changed my profile name-so I'm now cruzrmomma-
I ended up stying at both-this was years ago but was looking at old posts! maybe someone else has the same question
Marriott had the kitchen and BBQ, a big plus. Did not feel like a hotel-I do like the hotel feel. Pools had many more children, and did not really excite me. Loved the grass area, hammocks, and lawn chairs.
A little far for the walk to Whalers compared to Sheraton. Loved the Sheraton-great beach, so nice to have it be yours! The pool was so fun-with the little meandering way it goes around, and the view from teh pool with black rock was fantastic. Rooms were fine-Marriott better, but the beach and resort edged out. We went as a couple so sheraton was better fit-if I had my kid-then I'd opt for the Marrriott
