Sheraton Maui...Howzit?

How is the Sheraton Maui? How are the rooms? Dining close by? Refrigs in the room? Activities? We are going at the end of Aug.

When we stayed at the Sheraton about 10 years ago, we were very happy with it. One reason I chose it was that there is very good snorkeling right from the beach.
We rented a car, and there were numerous good restaurants within short driving distance.

We'll be staying there in Dec. There are fridges in the rooms. Black Rock is right there for good snorkeling. You can walk to Whaler's Village for dining and shopping. It's a short drive to Lahaina for more dining options. Have a great time and please post when you return.

Hi Dean, family members were at the Sheraton Maui about something like six weeks ago. They loved it so much they plan on going back after Christmas. They are a couple that have sometimes not been pleased with places that they have stayed at so when they express their pleasure about a hotel I know they really have enjoyed the experience. Have a wonderful time in beautiful Maui!!

I stayed there two years ago and it was great. I suggest you get a Starwood card, if you don't already have one (they're free) and then let the hotel know you are a Starwood member. I received complimentary boxes of chocolate covered macadamia nuts, bottled water and an upgrade to an ocean view room.

Had a great time! We were there 2 weeks! The Sheraton was nice. Rooms and grounds well kept. Hallway carpet needed to be cleaned, tho. The beach and black rock were the best. Great place if you want the full "Hawaii Resort" style.

Dean, thanks for the update!

Six more days, and I will be at this
Sheraton!!

There is a ton of construction going on at the Maui Sheraton. For good details check out the TA forums. Some travelers have just returned and they said it wasn't just a little construction.

well, thank God there is a wonderful
beach right outside the hotel! We will
make do. Maybe they will give some
Westin pool privledges for the inconvience? ;) Ha. I know they did
away with this policy, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I'd love to see the Westin pool.

I won't worry about it. I will be in Maui!

I thought you could use the Westin pool if you stayed at the Sheraton in Maui. Not anymore??

beachkomer Nov 17th, 2006 04:45 AM

No, not anymore. They changed this sharing policy.

From my recent trip report:

Westin Maui -- "And they make a big deal of stay at one and play at all of their resorts on Ka'anapali, but the have recently changed that policy to exclude the pools! You can use the beach, ride the shuttle, eat and sign in restaurants, but no pool use except where you are staying."

That really irks me! The Sheraton was $150 less a night, but knowing we could swim at the Westin was a deciding factor for me. I even remember reading you could use all of the facilities at the Westin. How is the Sheraton pool?

beachkomer Nov 18th, 2006 07:21 PM

The Sheraton pool:

There is a pool that is mostly adults closer to the Black rock. It has a bar near it. There is a lazy river that connects this pool to another pool that is mostly children. I really liked the lazy river...there is Hawaiian music playing and lots of palm trees over the pool area. It was cold, but I don't know if it was because they just filled it? The Hyatt pool was heated. It was a great temp.

There is a bar/grill there, which was nice for a drink and lite meal.

You will be happy at the Sheraton, we loved the grounds and the position on the beach. Also, the black rock and snorkeling.

Personally, I didn't care for the Westin pool area, but we didn't stay there. We just walked around.

When are you going?

breathe Nov 19th, 2006 09:11 AM

We arrived at the Sheraton yesterday. We were able to get building 3, because my son broke his leg playing football and he has a cast, so they agreed we needed to be close to the beach and pool. It is very pretty here and we were upgraded to an ocean front, but the rollaway I requested was $65 a night. My jaw dropped when they told me that. My daughter and son, 15 and 16, won't sleep in the same bed, so we are going to Bed Bath and Beyond to buy a blow up for the next 4 nights. (After that we were able to get a second room. They are totally booked here.) I have a question about parking. What is the best bet? Can you park yourself for free or is valet the only option?

DebitNM Nov 19th, 2006 09:29 AM

Call the front desk and ask about self - park. If it is like the Westin [which I think it is] you can self park for free. At the Westin, if the self park was full, you could use valet park without the daily fee, but we tipped the attendant. The sign had to be out saying the self park was full for this to hold true.

Hope this helps...
