Sheraton -- Kansas City, MO

Will be spending several days later on this month at the Sheraton Suites in KC, MO (the one at 770 W 47th St).

Any info you could provide about what is nearby would be great. Will also be on foot for several days while spouse is at meetings. Have read about the Nelson-Atkins Museum and the hotel offers shuttles.

(thanks in advance!)
You'll be right on the plaza for awesome shopping/dining. Check out countryclubplaza.com for listing of stores and restaurants. Plaza is also filled with interesting arch. & fountains. Other nearby attractions would be Union Station & Crown Center, but not within walking distance. Also a drive down Ward Parkway & through the neighboring streets is always fun to look at the beautiful houses. Depends on what you are into!

The Sheraton Suites was originally built as a Marriott Suites around 1990. It is located at the edge of the Plaza, KC's only really unique attraction (since it was the USA's first dedicated outdoor shopping area, with Spanish architecture and old style attention to detail).
Rooms are around 375 sq ft with separate living room and bedroom. They were spacious by standards of the time, but not much above average by current standards.
It's a well maintained hotel, especially for a Sheraton, which is a chain known for inconsistency in this regard.
You can walk to 25+ restaurants within 6 blocks or so. Plenty of shopping.
Most people would be happy with this choice of hotel.

The comments you have received so far are accurate. The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art is between your hotel and the Nelson-Atkins and very good. It is also a good place for lunch.

Take advantage of the shuttle or a trolly and go up to Crown Center, another small shopping center attached by closed walkways to Union Station and Hallmark. The Science Museum in Union Station is disapointing, but the traveling exhibits and Imax are OK. The Hallmark Visitor's Center at Crown Center, with crafts people at work, exhibits, original art by Norman Rockwell and may other exhibits is also worth visiting.

Last of all continue up to the City Market and visit the Arabia Steamboat Museum http://www.1856.com/home.html

Keith
