Sheraton Anaheim
 

I've found a really good rate for 3 nights at
the Sheraton Anaheim. Can anyone tell me if
this is a nice hotel ? We want it all...a
nice hotel room and a great rate. Thanks.

We stayed here for 4 nights last year and have reservations to start and end our vacation there this year.

Room were very large and well furnished - extremely clean (my wife slept well, this is the mark of a good room!)

The hotel is quite classy (especially when the price is considered), Koi streams in the lobby good pool, nice public areas.

The location is good, at the end of the "strip" with a free shuttle into Disney. Watch out for some of the local restaurants - we had some of the worst meals of our vacation in the area. Ask the concierge about some of the restaurants further out - we had a fantastic chinese meal at the Anaheim Plaza (I think) on their recommendation

By the way - the best place to watch the disneyland fireworks in in the hot tub at the hotel, get there in time to claim your place, have a beer and relax!

Have to agree - the Sheraton Anaheim is one of the better properties in the Disney area. Been around a long time - since I was a kid and that was many a year ago!

Really, you can't go wrong, and I think you will be pleased. As Andypsmith stated, most of the restaurants in the area are not the best, though there is a jewel or two to be found hiding. One I just learned about (opened recently) is the Tangerine Grill. It's located inside one of the hotels near the convention center (across from Disney). I'm sure the concierge will know of it. They have the BEST Tangerine Creme Brulee!

What cuisine was Tangerine grill?

I can be really picky about "California cuisine" as I feel most restaurants are out to suck dollars from tourists who feel they are eating what "real" Californians eat.

That being said, I do have two favorites that I always look forward to going to. One is the Tangerine Grill. For those who are in the Anaheim area, the address is 1030 W Katella, Anaheim, and the restaurant is located in the Anabella Hotel. (Nope, can't speak for the hotel, sorry!) They have a wonderful patio area and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They do recommend reservations, so that is something to consider. A lot of their dishes incorporate the use of tangerines, which gives food a sweet, tangy, light flavor. I LOVE their Chicken Tangerine and always take a slice of their Tangerine Cheesecake home! On the lighter side, they have a Two Color Ceasar that is very good!

The second restaurant is actually a chain, but I like it anyway. It's called California Pizza Kitchen. They are expanding, so there might be near you! It is far more casual but can be a long line to get a seat unless you time your meal to miss the rush. They serve pizza which is always a hit with the kids (the first place to serve B-b-que chicken pizza), and I especially like the Chicken Tequila Fettucine. They also have a good variety of salads, sandwiches, soups, and pasta dishes.

Dang, now I'm hungry!

chele: Good recommendations! I'm going to have to try that Tangerine Grill now.... And you can't really go wrong with CPK.

Fact is, "California cuisine" is now ANY type of food made with our always-in-season produce and other fresh ingredients. If you feel like venturing out of Anaheim, your dining choices explode into thousands of possibilities. Will you have a car...?

I did want to add that even though the Tangerine Grill requests reservations, this by no means indicates that one has to be dressed in suit and tie or cocktail dress. Overall, So Cal is casual and any restaurant around Disneyland expects tourists, who seldom happen to have a suit or formal wear tucked away in their carry on!

Bono's here in Long Beach is serving up a "CA cuisine" eclectic menu. I went the second week and they were working out the menu, but already it was hitting on practically all cylinders. And now it's running at full capacity-- every time I've gone by this summer it's been packed. Another success for Christy!

Have you ever eaten at Lasher's in Belmont Heights? It's down the street from me and I've heard wonderful things about it, but I've never been. Soon, however....

I am not expecting restaurant tips all the way!
