Sheration Broadway Plantation, Myrtle Beach
Hi:
We are planning a short visit to Myrtle Beach in March. Has anyone got any information about this resort? Thanks!
|
Annie,

There is a website for this hotel (one of several actually): www.starwoodvo.com. The description there states that this hotel/resort is across the street from Broadway at the Beach and only 2 blocks from the ocean.

My morning commute takes me past Broadway at the Beach every day, so I knew there was no way the hotel could be that close to the ocean. After some sleuthing, I found that the hotel is adjacent to the back side of Broadway at the Beach. However, that leaves it several MILES from the ocean.

I love the ocean (that's why I live here), and I can't imagine not wanting to stay oceanfront, or at least within easy walking distance of the beach. But if you don't feel the pull of the sea that strongly, the Sheraton is in a good location generally. You would have easy access to central Myrtle Beach and easy access to both North Myrtle Beach and the south strand (Murrell's Inlet) via highway 17 by-pass.

If however, you would like to be ocean-front or within walking distance, I highly recommend Kingston Plantation. It is between Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach and it is most definitely an ocean-front resort. In fact, it is the best resort in the Myrtle Beach area--nicely landscaped, variety of accomodations, and nice without being too expensive. In fact, it appears to be a better deal than the Sheraton. You can check the website at www.kingstonplantation.com.

If you need more info on Myrtle Beach, definitely do a search of this site--lots of opinions (pro and con) and good info. Also, I would be happy to try to help.

Have a great time!

Chuck:
Thanks for the sleuthing!! I saw the website stating it was Two blocks from the ocean. A bit deceiving.
I have stayed at Kingston Plantation and loved it! I am a Starwood Preferred guest which was the reason for staying at Broaddway Plantation. I might rethink my choice. I know there is a Four Points Sheraton on the beach but I was not too impressed with the pictures I saw on the website. Are my impressions correct?
I may just bite the bullet and forget about the Starpoints and go back to KP.

Thnaks so much for your help!

Annie, may I ask when in March you will be staying there. The reason being is from March 14-18 there is a National Cheerleading Competition at the Convention Center. If you don't mind 5,000 screaming girls and guys I would suggest that you book someplace away from Broadway at the Beach. That is where there hugh party is this year.

The reason why I know this is because I am a National Cheerleading judge. I just warning you because when family vacationers see the kids they want to run and hide. But then again if you have teenage kids, this is the place to be.
|
Carol:
Yikes!!!
Those are the dates we had planned! Thanks for the heads up!
|
Annie,

I don't know much about the Sheraton Four Points, except that it is located in the extreme southern portion of Myrtle Beach (around 27th Avenue South). Personally, I would prefer any Avenues north of the Pavillion.

One other thought is Litchfield, which is south of Murrell's Inlet. It is more isolated, but I have heard it is very nice--closer to the "plantations" at Hilton Head than to the typical MB hotels/resorts (of course, I think Kingston Plantation is close to being a HH-type resort).

Good Luck, and bring some warm weather with you! It has been pretty cold for us beach bums the past few weeks.

Your welcome Annie - It gets pretty wild there. I have been this particular tournament for six years and even though the kids are under control, you know how teenage kids can get.

The weather is not always wonderful at that time of the year either. Fortunately or I am sequestered on Sat and Sunday during the day but I do get out at night. Please don't get me wrong I love what I do and I love the kids, but Myrtle Beach during St. Patricks Day Week with 5,000 kids is a hoot. Good luck - I hope I did not discourage you.

NOOOOO Carol...
We just moved our visit to the following weekend. I am glad you let me know. I like a good time too but 5000 teenagers, OH MY! Thanks again.
Still undecided about where to stay....

Forest Dunes Resort is our all time favorite place to stay. www.forestdunes.com

Annie, your options are open now. I just hope that my bosses don't read this board. I use my real name and I can be staying home this year if they found this out. Oops!!!!!!!
|
Annie, get a Hilton Honors card and go back to KP. They give points on it. My boys LOVE that water park and we love the resort. I can't imagine any other place in MB being as nice as we usually shop around and check out others. Haven't seen one as nice as KP yet including the Wyndham.

HI:
I got my HHilton HHonors card and will be heading back to KP
Thanks everyone!
