Shelburne Museum - admission $17.50 per person?

We would like to visit this museum next week but I never heard of such high admission. Why? What is so special about this place?

If you're asking about the Shelburne Museum in Vermont, it's actually a small city made up of historically significant buildings that were transported whole to the site (including a covered bridge, a round barn and a lighthouse) and filled with tools, furniture and other items appropriate to the structure and its time. See www.shelburnemuseum.org/index.htm

The place is huge and you can easily spend an entire day there. The admission price isn't out of line for what you're offered.

Adult admission to Plimoth Plantation or Sturbridge Village is $20.

Or you can purchase the entertainment book for Vermont - it's in there - buy one admission/get one free. A lot of grocery stores and civic groups sell them around the state for about $30, and might be worth your while if you take advantage of several offers. A number of good area restaurants are included.

I visited the Shelburne in '98. The tickets were good for 2 days. It is fascinating and well worth the admission price. There are wonderful collections of folk art, quilts, carousel horses, and more.
