Shades of Green on WDW

Anyone out there stay at Shades of Green at Walt Disney World? Just made reservations - taking my 10 year old niece the first week of June. We're staying 5 nights.

Did you feel you needed a rental car? Anyone book through the resort?

Any tips for that resort?

We stayed there about 18 months ago. It was a very nice place and I would go back there again without hesitation.

We live locally and did have our car with us. I think you can get to the parks via WDW transportation, but it may take some extra time. With a car, you can go immediately to your destination without additional waiting...although you will have to pay for Disney parking. Additionally, having a car is nice if you want to eat at any of the Disney hotels. Shades of Green is located in the Epcot area and is very close to Artist Point if you would like a culinary treat some evening.

Shades of Green is the best deal on the property. Rooms are large. They have their own bus service to all of the parks, but it's also convenient to walk a few hundred yards to the Polynesian and catch the monorail (or a boat or a bus). The bellmen also operate a golf cart shuttle that takes folks down to the end of the path just across from the Poly.

You may already be aware, but Disney is offering a great deal on tickets for military this year, $99 for a 5-day pass:

You don't need a rental car, but it can be convenient if you want to go off the Disney property, and for going certain places like Downtown Disney or to the Animal Kingdom Lodge, which otherwise might require transferring busses. But then again assuming you'd only be doing that a few times you can always take a cab.

How are you planning to get to Shades of Green? Sometimes its just as cheap to rent a small car for a weekly rate as it is to use a limo service. Tips on car rentals:

Thanks for the comments. I think I will rent a car, but maybe not for the entire time. I would like to be able to go off property. So I'll do some pricing on it and compare rates to include by the time I add a shuttle to see how it comes out. I'm looking forward to the trip. Haven't been to WDW since I took my niece's (should have said great niece) mother! Yikes the time goes by.

If you do rent a car, keep it for the entire trip. If you have to add the cost of an airport shuttle to or from the resort, you will quickly see that you aren't saving anything by not picking up the car at the airport. Plus, you save time not having to wait.

I say this unless you are taking a Disney package and have the Disney airport transfer service, but I don't know if that's offered at Shades of Green.
