SFO to Sonoma 10/18/08 past Infineon Raceway

Will be travelling from SFO to the town of Sonoma this Saturday, 10/18/08, leaving SFO around noon. I see that there is a Russell Race Weekend at Infineon Raceway this weekend. Plan to drive Rts. 37 and 121 to Sonoma. Should we consider an alternate route? Any suggestions?

We did just this trip a couple weeks ago. From SFO take US 101 North, merge onto I-380 West than I-280 North toward San Francisco. Take CA 1 toward US 101 and Golden Gate Bridge. Continue on US 101 out of San Francisco to Rt. 37 then Rt 121 North directly to the Race Track. Nice dive - total drive time took about 1 hour 15 minutes.

Go on Mapquest for step by step routing.

If your timing allows stop in Sausalito for lunch on the waterfront and maybe spend some time walking around the village and browsing the shops.

Good route RoamsAround, EXCEPT
when there is a race at Infineon-then you want to stay away from 37/121 which will be clogged.

Here's the better route that day. Continue north on Hwy 101
into Petaluma and take the Lakeville Hwy/116 East exit. Follow
Lakeville to Frates Rd,(4 stoplights: Baywood Dr., Casa Grande, South McDowell, then Frate Rd.)
turn left onto Frates.
Follow this to Adobe Rd., stay straight as Frates become Adobe. Follow Adobe Rd. where it intersects with Stage Gulch Rd.
and vere left - this is now Stage Gulch Rd. Follow this to Arnold Drive. Your choice to turn left or right on Arnold Dr. depends on where your destination is in Sonoma town.

Supposed to be a lovely weekend here !

I wouldn't worry about it. Russell Race weekend is the championship series for the driving school. It isn't a massive crowd like the super bikes or NASCAR.

It is sort of the graduation for the school course. Just mainly friends/families of those racing.

Just take the route you originally planned. . . . .

Even for a NASCAR if you aren't on the road the three hours prior to the race or after there is little traffic on the Hwy's.

Thanks so much for the help!

razzledazzle, how long would you expect our drive to take (SFO to Sonoma) if we follow your route through Petaluma?

Hi syd,

Both routes will be about 1.15-
1.5 hours. My alt route has you going up, then over to Sonoma and the other is over and then up.
