SFO To Seattle
 

My family and I will be flying into SFO on May 30 and will depart from SFO on June 10. I am debating as to whether we have the time to drive to Seattle, go to Vancouver for a day or two then drive back to Hearst Castle and still have a two days in SFO. Is this too much for ten days we will have on the ground? <BR><BR>Any comments from those that have done a similar trip are appreciated.<BR><BR>Thanks<BR><BR>RM

Way too much ground for 10 days= <BR>You will spend tons of time in a car driving and no enough time seeing the sites....<BR><BR><BR>I would do the SFO/Hearst scenerio OR the SFO/Seattle scenrio...<BR><BR>Vancouver is roughly 2 hrs N.of Seattle on a good day without all the Seattle Traffic....

Not worth it. If you could do it one way, it might be more reasonable. Call it two 9-hour days of driving each way. Hearst Castle is a good half-day trip each way from SFO as well.

We live in SEA and have relatives in SFO - we do this drive annually. It is 16 hrs of driving if you take Interstates, 20 hours if you go the coastal route. There are some relatively inexpensive round-trip airfares that will allow you to spend more time in the Seattle/Vancouver area, rather than doing all that driving.

It is probably too late, since it sounds as if you already have tickets - but we were able to fly Boston to Seattle then drive to SF and fly home to Boston - and they called it a round trip ticket.<BR><BR>If this is workable with your schedule, it might be worth it to check with airline and see how much you would have to pay to change tickets to do this. One way car rental fees were not intolerable. We spent 2 nights in hotels along the way and were able to see some of Portland, Mt. St. Helens, redwoods, etc. and it was a nice trip. Would not want to do it as a round-trip drive in that time frame, though. Had to drop car at SF airport - and actually did that upon arrival and took cab to hotel since didn't want or need a car in SF.

The tickets are already in hand. They were freebies from US Airways from a voluntary bump we took in Boston last year. We got five round trip tickets for a 6 hour delay which was well worth the wait. However, they are not open jaw so flying into SFO and out of Seattle is not an option.<BR><BR>It appears as though we will be spending all our time in CA which is fine as there is plenty to do there.<BR><BR>Thanks for your help.<BR><BR>RM
