What's the best way to get from SFO to Union Square? We'll be arriving around 6:30pm. Thanks!

We took the Bart. Easy to use and cheaper. Also got in on a Friday night (after dark) and no problems with rolling luggage up to the Adante Hotel which is on the edge of the Tenderloin. We had no probs at all and had two teens with us. Guess if youre not adventurous, its better to pay for the shuttle.

IJAR are you suggesting spending $40 for a bus trip that makes other stops rather than a taxi, and one that you may have to wait for departure for? Isn't that about the same price for a taxi that would take you direct to the hotel? Or have the taxi prices raised beyond that now?

Sorry, didn't mean to post. Or is the Airporter $20 for two?

Hi yestravel, if you go to the SFO website which is www.flysfo.com and click on ground transportation you will find your various options to get from SFO to Union Square. They show the taxi to downtown SF (which would include Union Sq.) at $37.00. per ride.

Lightfoot, you stayed at the Adante. I stayed there are few months ago and really enjoyed it. The price was very reasonable, room was small but comfortable and the hotel was very quiet, I found. I also loved being so close to lots of shopping and restaurants in the Union Square area.

Hope you had a good time.

1. taxi = fastest, more convenient, most expensive

2. shuttle or airporter - cheaper, but maybe the longest, depending on your hotel's location

3. BART - if you can handle your luggage, cheapest, convenient, faster then shuttle

Thanks for all your responses. Very helpful! We're staying at the Hotel Adiago which is on Geary btwn Taylor and Jones. What would the closest BART stop be?

LoveItaly May 22nd, 2006 08:05 AM

Hi yestravel, you will want to get off at the Powell St. BART station. Go upstairs at the Powell St exit. Walk up Powell St., three blocks to Geary. Turn left on Geary. You will walk three blocks..well your hotel will be in the middle of the third block. Wishing you a wonderful time in San Francisco!!

FainaAgain May 22nd, 2006 09:20 AM

Not sure Powell or Civic Center is the closest, but you don't want to be in the Civic Center area at night.

Take Powell st exit, and pray for the escalator to work :)

LoveItaly May 22nd, 2006 11:19 AM

Faina, Geary St., from the Civic Center is 8 blocks north, Powell St., is the shortest route for yestravel.

Sounds good! will be hoping for the elevators to be working that's for sure. Thanks for such good directions. Looking forward to a great weekend.

I think you should ride a Del Sol Cruiser bike in SF.

Because if you ride one of those, you can eat at three different yummy restaurants, shop all afternoon at Un Square, tour hotels and hit the Ferry Bldg, Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf and still make the 4 hr drive home in one day. *** ((A)) ***

wantsomesun, we did have a great time! I also thought the Adante was a great value for the money. I tend to want a little different experience than the cookie cutter hotels. We were there for the SF Marathon and could pretty much walk or ride the cable car everywhere we wanted to go. Glad to hear you had a good time too!
