SF/Wine Country for President's Week

Hello all! My husband and I have *finally* settled on our February vacation plans, and will be heading to San Fran and wine country (2 days Napa, 2 days Sonoma).

Is this week a very packed time for tourism in the area? How far in advance will we need reservations for hotels and B&Bs?

We were planning to book our SF hotel on priceline, because we're on a tight budget (conserving the hotel $$ for wine country!) Ideally, a nice place in the Union Square or Marina areas, for around $80 per might. Any opinions about our chances during the time? I'd love to hear from Fodorites who travelled to the area during this time.

Thanks in advance!

Book now! If you want to wait for SF to get in on priceline book in the wine country now. Look at Cow Hollow Suites in SF.

Thanks Pam! We're still working out the details, but I had a feeling I should probably get the wine country part nailed down.

We used to do Staff Offsites every year around the middle of February in Healdsburg. It was a beautiful time with daffodils everywhere and the fruit trees in wild bloom.

Don't forget the Embarcadero area as a good place to stay. Hyatt Regency comes up on Priceline for very reasonable rates and it's a good spot for catching transportation.

Great! I'll definitely look into that area as well.

I am so looking forward to our time in Healdsburg- thanks for the additional excitement :) We're going to split our time between there and Yountville, I think, two days in each.

Too bad you won't be in Y'ville the day after T'Giving! ;)

Next to Kauai, Y'ville is a fave Kal-place.

Remember the parking charges when you're in SF. If you rent a car, rent it when you check out to avoid them.

Kal,
Can you explain the parking charges? What do you mean rent after you check out?? Thanks for enlightening me on this, maybe my head isn't working to well tonight!

I'm thinking that Kal meant to wait until you leave SF for the wine country to rent your car. That's assuming maybe that you are going to stay IN the wine country? Or are you staying in SF and commuting? Sonoma and Napa are about an hour+ away from SF, give or take depending on traffic.

O.K. I'm awake now! I understand what Kal was saying now. Thanks Austin. Have fun in SF TarheelslnNj.

Yep.
No sense wasting rental car $$$ if it's just going to sit in a hotel parking garage. ;)

Don't worry, that's the plan! :) We live in NYC and have a car, so I know what a pain it can be in the cities. I don't plan to have that headache on my vacation too!
