SF to Mexico
If I fly in from London to San Francisco with three weeks to kill, what would you recommend I see in the area? After that, I would like to drive down to Mexico; how long a drive would that be? and would it be on a scenic route? Are there any B&B along the way?

Daisy, you might want to do a little research and pick up a map. Ask some more specific questions and you'll get better advice. For starters, San Francisco is about 600 miles from Mexico -- and that is just to the border. You should allow yourself at least four days to do that journey -- lots to see on the way. Yes, there are b&bs along the way.

Before going any further with the Mexico plans check with car rental companies to see if they allow rental cars to be driven into Mexico.

RQF has made an excellent point.
Get written OK in advance from 'car hire' company that you CAN take their car across the border into Mexico.
None used to, but perhaps that has changed. You will, of course, be charged an additional fee for additional insurance to cover their car; only you can decide if it's worth it.
Most (if not all) auto insurance companies for private cars do not cover trips into Mexico as part of their annual premiums. You MUST buy extra insurance.
Mexican border towns, Tijuana for example, are not very pleasant and most would agree that it is not representative of Mexico at all.
