SF Restaurant Report
My husband's plane was 2 hrs late arriving at SFO, placing us in commute hour traffic. Only choice was to stop in The City for dinner to wait out the traffic. We chose:
SPQR on Fillmore St.
Wonderful! They do not take reservations, but we were shocked to find the restaurant near full at 5:35 PM. It's a tiny restaurant with tiny tables and a bit of a cramped feeling. We were so close to the couple sitting next to us that we finally merged our conversations and even shared tastes! Soon we were having so much fun we didn't mind the small space. DH chose the wine, something Italian similar to a Sangiovese for $21/ carafe which we really enjoyed.
Limited choice of main entrees, but a large selection of appetizers at $8 apiece, or 3 for $21. We chose Brussel Sprouts - fried with shallots and capers (the best ever!), Scallops (fresh and fabulous) and Soup (mushroom dumpling). For entree we each had the lamburger. Sharing was encouraged and we wished we had shared the lamburger as well. Delightfully creamy strawberry/orange sorbet with biscotti for dessert ($3). The couple next to us thought SPQR was much better than A16. We highly recommend this busy, casual, well-priced restaurant.
