SF Hyatt (Embarquedero): question
 

Does anyone know if this hotel is especially quiet or not? Both from outside noise and from internal noise? E.g. whether the walls between rooms are thin or not? We need to book a SF hotel for 3-4 days and we're hoping to find something as quiet as possible.

We had a room with a balcony facing the bay--I don't recall hearing any outside noise, the bed (in our room, anyway) was on the opposite wall of the sliding glass door with a pretty good distance in-between.

We were, however, awaken in the middle of the night by the young couple next door engaging in, uh, night time activity. I don't know whether the walls were especially thin or they were especially loud.

Regardless, we liked the location of this hotel and would stay there again.

We didn't hear anything from the street or from connecting rooms.

When we booked on the internet there was a question that said "any special requests" and I typed in "quiet room". I expect you could request this by phone as well.

It's been a few years since I stayed there but I don't recall any problems with noise. As a matter of fact, we often wondered if anyone else was actually staying on either side of us b/c it was always so quiet. Our room faced the downtown area and was up on a higher floor, so street noise wasn't a problem either. It was a really nice hotel.

Have stayed there several times and have never been bothered in the least by any noise at all.

Now I just need to decide between it and the Orchard Hotel. Both sound very pleasant, Orchard is considerably less expensive (and includes breakfast); just need to decide whether we want a chain hotel or a "boutique" hotel. (If I could be sure of which would be more quiet, we'd for sure choose that one.)

Agree that there really isn't a noise issue. And of all the hotels that I have stayed at in SF, it was the most convenient for public transportation.

Try Priceline for your SF hotel. I noticed last night that the Hyatt was coming up for $61/room/night during Thanksgiving week.

Betsy-- thanks for your post. Alas, I don't think I'd ever be comfortable with Priceline, etc. This old dog (we're in our late 70's) is barely managing with other sorts of websites; the trick of online bidding is too off-putting. Too bad, because I'm sure it's a great way to get those prices down.

Poss! Don't sell yourself short. It's not that hard to learn. Is there a geeky kid in your family or neighborhood that you could recruit to help you?
