SF Hotel - any unacceptable on this list?
Going for conference and can receive conference rates at the following hotels.

2 adult females going for one week. I want to be close to Union Square (hence the above hotels) and hoping for a hotel with some character and good service and some amenities. Nothing too flashy and hip (Hotel Diva looked a little too neon for my tastes.

I've tried to research online but haven't found to much info.

Handlery Union Square Hotel
Maxwell Hotel
Villa Florence
Hotel Cosmo
Chancellor Hotel on Union Square
Hotel Union Square
Hotel Diva
Kensington Park
King George
Monticello Inn

If these hotels are unacceptable, I am not completely adverse to spending more dough at the Westin which I love.

Thanks.

We stayed at the Villa Florence last September and enjoyed it very much. Large confortable rooms, excellent service, nice lobby/bar/restautant facilities including free wine and beer every afternoon. I think you would be quite happy here. Request a room facing the inner courtyard to avoid the street noise.

Try the Columbus Motor Inn. One of the best kept secrets in San Francisco, that I found here on Fodors. We stayed there two different times...GREAT location and free parking.

I don't know what the rates are that you are able to get, but I just stayed at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco for $61 a night. I got it on Priceline. The service was great, as was the location. They allow early check in also. (I was there at 10:00 a.m.)

Stayed at the Chancellor Hotel a few years ago. Great location and a nice clean room, had a good happy hour in the lobby there. Reasonably priced. Certainly not "flashy or hip", but a good hotel. Around the corner is the Hotel Rex which we toured, and I would love to stay there when I return, but it was alot more money than the Chancellor.
